MONtheYM Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 With all the shite that happened with that ref at the Stranraer Uppers game, wanted to see what people's general opinions of south refs are? Only been watching a few Dumfries teams (when I moved here) for about 3 years. Got to say the standard has been mixed. Got to say that SEan isn't the best, but maybe a couple of you guys are too harsh? Maybe I haven't seen him at his worst? Any quality referees in the league in your guys opinions? Got to say Brian Templeton and Lloyd Wilson are the best for me (not sure why people bash lloyd so much on here)? Think the linos quality is mixed. Couple of the Dumfries linos are ok, maybe deserve a chance in the middle?? What do you guys think? Think the new Lino from moffat is quite good, refreshing that he's actually respectful to players and talks them through games, but still gets his job done?!? What do you guys think? Agree or disagree?
goalmachine Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 Lloyd gets so much abuse because of his attitude and the way he talks to players. Refs won't get respect from players if you speak to them tgecway Lloyd does. He's also so inconsistent with desicions and wants to be the centre of attention every game he officiates.
teamplayer Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 The standard of refs is poor but we need them in the game, yes Lloyd attitude is bad some times but he probably needs to be like that to get to pro football level. Sad but true. I would say about 5 refs we get on our league are no to bad the rest are shocking. Sean probably being the worst. Brain being the best
info Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 Sad day for football if an attitude problem is seen as the best way to progress as a referee. Willie Young Kenny Hope and their contemporaries did not need it. Their "attitude" was enjoy the game.
Susan Boyles Cat Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 Quote Gentlemen this is the season of goodwill to all men. Referees and their assistants give up their free time to officiate at the South of Scotland games. To you who wish to crucify the same men, what have you ever given to football at any level? If you can't offer a positive answer don't bother replying.
info Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 Let's not get carried away by the old chestnuts such as: Refs giving up their free time: Referees are the only participant officials out of committeemen, groundsmen tea ladies stripwashers etc in the South who actually get paid on a Saturday. Most of the time it costs them money To confuse legitimate criticism with "crucifixion" is way OTT. The positive answer is for referee s to be supervised properly and not treated as untouchables. At the moment any attempt to clarify or protest at a "wrong" decision is treated as a capital offence! Everyone who posts on P&B is not a keyboard cowboy. You obviously cannot be very involved in South football if you don't know the cost of officials

It's fair enough to question a decision, just like you'd question a teammate on why they didn't pass the ball or why they shot instead of passing to you; but maybe with referees it should be a quiet word in the ear when your running near them and not screaming in their faces or swearing and cursing over 20/30 yards? Think a referee has got to enjoy refereeing to do it. I don't think they view it as giving up their time for local football blah blah, so neither should we . They do it cause they like doing it, same with players playing cause they enjoy doing it ect It's a shame not every game has linesman, or maybe this criticism would be reduced? Help the middle man manage their games. Don't hear much about Linos on this? Who's the good and bad ones in your opinions?
harry worth Posted December 19, 2017 Posted December 19, 2017 You obviously think your good or you wouldn't be pressing for an answer
neily1690 Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 Having played over the years sometimes having linesman made it worse as a few got involved far too much, but certainly make it easier for refs ie offside calls, all the new refs seem to have the school teacher mentality instead of bit of respect its YOU HERE NOW, etc .it riles players and where problems are coming from in my opinion

Exactly, players, coaches etc just don't seem aware of how aggressive they are when 'questioning' a referee.
South fan 2 Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 You can' have a quiet word in some referees ears and that' s a major problem. You get yellow carded. I agree screaming at refs is not on but some are not approachable.
weeredbook Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 Wilson absolutely ruined the Hulford Mussleburgh game .When teams ran out ,and I seen it was him I said to the guys along from me "it will be all about him " .........it was .
catakoom Posted December 29, 2017 Posted December 29, 2017 Lloyd Wilson is the worst referee as it just has to be "all about him".a shocking attitude for a referee to have so no doubt he'l be fast tracked to the seniors
boulderdomb Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 Players don't help themselves when their passion takes over and they're aggressively questioning the referee, sometimes in groups all in one mans face - can you imagine how intimidating that would be especially if the decision you've just made is actually correct and (as we can all agree) the players don't fully understand LOTG? I can understand how some referee's can be quick with the dissent card although they defiantly should be more approachable.
Mattmc Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 Not directly SOS but Lloyd Wilson has been appointed as referee for Junior Cup Final. Can't achieve much higher outwith the SPFL. Well done Lloyd.
boulderdomb Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 Wasn't that long ago people were slating him and calling him one of the worst referee's in the league - why do the SFA see differently?

theProdigy Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 Wasn't that long ago people were slating him and calling him one of the worst referee's in the league - why do the SFA see differently? He grew up! Had a very bad case of little man syndrome and managed to get that sorted out! He’s put a lot of work into improving that way I believe and now is a very good and fairly mature referee... He’s got a bright future and defo deserves what he has achieved!
