Romeo
At least we avoided the uncomfortable, yet inevitable Israeli Defence Force sex scandal exposé when DFID managed to stop Priti Patel from sending money meant to be spent on clean water for disaster victims on evicting Palestinians from their homes, trying teenage girls for terrorism offences for slapping a soldiers and machine gunning kiddies for throwing rocks. This is all suspicious as f**k btw. We need spend all our money on blue passports and building garden bridges in London.

Whilst the actions of the Oxfam workers is deplorable in itself, this will undoubtedly give the Tories the excuse to scrap stuff like GiftAid and scrape a few extra quid back into the coffers.

Surely about half of them will be desperately trying to set up a 'fact finding mission' as we speak. I think they view the Foreign Aid budget as a means to 'grease the wheels' to encourage countrids to 'buy British'. Especially the large 'aid' package we send to India. No need to stop the ahem fact finding missions, win win. I suppose.

ICTChris
Report for MPs says that the aid sector is "almost complicit" in the sex scandals that have been reported in the last year. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-45013078 Not sure if I've seen any information regarding a reduction in donations to Oxfam since the Haiti scandal broke, I wonder what the impact has been.

It’s a nightmare scenario for donors though. If you stop donating who suffers more? What a fucked up world.

Newbornbairn
Are we still running with the idea this is a Tory plot? A còlleague did his gap year working with Tearfund in Africa - says it was one long party. Worst was MSF, called Medicin sans pantalons by everyone else.
ICTChris
The Charity Commission has criticised Oxfam for their conduct as part of the sex scandal involving Haiti. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-48593401 The report severely criticises Oxfam for putting it's own reputation ahead of concern for the victims of sexual exploitation by senior Oxfam staff. According to the BBC Oxfam has lost 7000 regular donors who donated £14m since the scandal as well as £20m of government funding.
