Can only go with the stats.. 2015/16 - 27 appearances (missed about 3 months mid-season, can’t really remember why. 2016/17 - 13 games - missed most of the season due to that freak head knock - tough to see that as anything other than bad luck. 2017/18 - 41 games - fit as a butcher’s dog but couldn’t shift Shankland. 2018/19 - 26 games - missed last 3 months of the season due to knee injury - can’t help wondering if the club bear some responsibility for the length of time he has ultimately been missing as it seemed to take about 3 months for them to accept he needed an operation. I’m still not clear why anyone at the club thought the problem was career threatening to the extent we offered a short term contract. Probably more a reflection of how poor the budget was in the Summer. Certainly looks like a false economy now. Dont get me wrong, his injury record isn’t great, but I also don’t think it’s as bad as some people imagine. On the other hand, if he picks up an injury tomorrow night, get him packed off to the glue factory...
D'Jaffo
So only 1 out 4 seasons he’s not had an injury that’s kept him out for an extended period of time. That’s a pretty poor record imo and correct me if I’m wrong but only Jamie Adams will have had a worse record since Moore joined. In conclusion offering him a 6 month deal was the right option considering we were already short on funds and we couldn’t know for definite he’d be fully fit. If he signs for Thistle then fine if he re-signs for us then fine. He’s not a player I’ll lose sleep over us losing.
Thereisalight..
A Tuesday for the rearranged game, surprise surprise. Any idea why we seem to play on Tuesdays rather than Wednesday?

Merely pointing out that any suggestion he has been injured more than available is inaccurate. Still baffled as to why anyone thought there was a question mark over him being full fit. Sounds like a pretty run of the mill knee injury that has resolved itself exactly in line with the medical advice. Not clear why non-medical types think they know more about knee injuries than knee surgeons. But then you can’t fight perception. I imagine there are a few on here that are still baffled as to how Robbie Crawford is doing well at a level above us. I mean, he was rubbish, wasn’t he? No great loss.

For all McCalls sound bites about him being the best kept secret he didn’t half misuse him by playing him out wise.

The same people who slagged Crawford are probably the same people who slate Bell, but are also unable to account for the fact that the defence has gone to pish since he dropped out injured.

UpInTheAyr
On your 2018/19 knee injury it was not down to the club putting off his operation , he was being dealt with through his GP and it took that long for operation as it was felt at first surgery was not required , Ayr only deal with he rehabilitation through our physio everything else is done through NHS , Ayr don’t deal through private care , like most provisional clubs , most players at these clubs have private insurance policies Sometimes they do though surely, I remember McCall saying Docherty's op cost the club a lot of money.

Makes it all the worse that we’re offering prove your fitness contracts when we’re not looking after players properly when they are injured. Also would explain the issues we’ve been having getting injuries diagnosed properly which has been a consistent issue in recent years. But what do we expect if we are sending players to see their local GP - Doesn’t sound like a remotely professional approach to treating sports injuries suffered by professional athletes. It would certainly explain the delay in getting his operation though. Your local GPs treatment approach to everything, including the Ebola virus, is to keep it for a few weeks and see if it clears up by itself.

That sounds amateurish to me. Professional football clubs are often dealing with highly specialised injuries with an obvious time pressure to get players back playing as quickly as possible, so I would have expected private insurances to be in place within the club. As you say, it doesn’t happen often that players need surgery, but. I would have expected better provision to be in place when it does. I do wonder if this is the full story though, as I think the earlier poster was correct when he mentioned Docherty’s injury being paid for by the club.
