If Sampaoli had any bollocks he'd drop Messi. I'm a fan, but he's been a complete embarrassment in this tournament so far, virtually a man down.

He's not been any worse than the rest of their attacking players. They've all been hopeless because of the embarrassment of a defence and midfield behind them. If Sampaoli had any bollocks he would accept that he's completely wasted the wealth of attacking talent at his disposal by expecting them to carry the disaster of a defence and midfield after he completely failed to put together a game plan to make up for their shortcomings.

Messi, Aguero, Higuain and Dybala have all been individually poor, but no Argentina player has had any chance to look good due to Sampaoli.

I like the idea that there's an Argentinian version of Alan Shearer on their telly deep in the middle of a 17 minute rant

Abel Balbo IMO.

Meaning GD is all important now for them, what do they need to win by and how much do they need to be safe and how much do Croatia need to let Iceland beat them by???

Goal difference might not come in to it at all. If Iceland draw with Nigeria and then fail to beat Croatia they can't get to 4 points. If Argentina beat Nigeria they go through on 4 points.

Impossible to tell about goal difference until Iceland and Nigeria play tomorrow.

Did the commentator say “hopefully Croatia and iceland do the decent thing and put one another out and not Argentina”?

p***k

That wasn’t the precise wording and pretty sure he meant play to win rather than kick the ball around a la Oldco and Hibs in May 2005.

There is obviously something wrong with the personal relationships in the Argentina camp.  That's a team that don't want to be there and don't want to play for each other.

Cesc hitting the nail on the head there, Argentina not only have the Keystone Cops for a defence, they play with absolutely NO midfield and expect Messi to produce magic moments out of his arse!!!
Don't think that's how Barcelona set up and for some reason he's the best player in the world when he plays for them!!!

Nigeria looked absolutely honking though.  Can see Iceland getting a narrow win, in which case it's going to be all eyes on how many Argentina can get against them on the final day.  Presuming Croatia don't just troll it out and give Iceland a point.

Didn't watch that with the sound on, which was a shame given it seemed to be getting a wee bit fractious.  Fucking brilliant to see, about time we got a proper bunch of absolute radge b*****ds trying to break each other.  Argentina don't deserve to go through going by how they've played so far.  All that attacking talent, but you can't just put them all on and think that you'll Kevin Keegan your way to an 8-7 victory.  Croatia have absolutely done them today.

Is Argentina not like the furthest country away from Russia, only because Antarctica doesn't have a team and yet it seems like they have the largest support in the tournament outside the Host itself!!!

I was thinking this earlier. How can teams like Peru and Senegal (especially Senegal) bring so many fans to such a far-flung outpost? The stadiums are full of Russkies, encouraged (told) by Putin to fill stadiums after being told to adopt a team.

absolute shitfest of a last game to ensure that iceland and croatia go through would be just marvellous - 89 minutes keep-ball and an OG to finish - if required - please
