Life on Marrs?
In a idea stolen from off the ball, which former manager of your club, who, at the peak of his playing days would you love to have in your team? (excluding those who did actually play for your side). Edited October 3, 2019 by Life on Marrs?
Big Fifer
We have absolutely loads of great former players but for me has to be Archibald in his peak.
King Kebab
Not a lot of choice for an East Fife fan as we do have a regular habit of signing a Player/Manager or an ex-player, such great players as Gary Naysmith, Steve Kirk, Steve Crawford, Steve Archibald, Davie Clarke, Jim Moffat and even the current incumbent Darren Young was signed as a P/M, even though I think he’s only played twice (not counting friendlies), even Gavin Murray and Rab Shannon, two of the worst managers we ever had were actually no bad players for us!!! So given the lack of choice I would have to go with John Robertson who was an absolute cracker of a player at his peak, guaranteed to score you a shitload of goals and as a second choice I would probably go with Barry (Traitor) Smith who was quite a good CH in his day!!!
Gordon EF
We could have some forward line out of ex managers at their peak: Archibald, Robertson, Durie.

Otherwise agreed, Robertson the clear choice.

Having heard the original "off the ball" question, I would have responded the same as BF, but I suppose , it has to Robertson as the "never played" choice
Life on Marrs?
Robbo, would be perfect with Kev & Duggan out just now and Waldo maybe not 100%. Be a headache for the gaffer when they are all fit. We do seem to prefer ex-players when we've chosen past managers historically.
King Kebab
Just had a look and in our entire history as a Club we have had 29 managers, technically 31 but David McLean and Davie Clarke held the position twice!!!Out of those, only 10 (Barry Smith, Willie Aitchison, Billy Brown, John Robertson, Dave Baikie, Jimmy Bone, Alec Totten, Bill Baxter, Jerry Dawson and Scot Symon) definitely never played for us!!!There could be three more but I need Angus to tell us if Walter Robertson, Charlie McCaig and John McArthur ever wore the Black and Gold!!!
Life on Marrs?
Forgot about Jimmy Bone. Before my time, but I'm led to believe he was a decent player.
Ro Sham Bo
Claude Anelka for me.
microdave
I'd probably plump for Jim Duffy. We could do with a Scottish player of the year in defence imo.

I think we need a stewards enquiry to judge whether Murray meets the criteria set out in the OP.

We've had a good few managers who were cracking players for us too. Davie Wilson, Murdo MacLeod, Bertie Auld and Ian Wallace to name a few. There's also some brilliant lower league guys like Tam Carson, Mark Clougherty and Paul Martin. Jim Fallon should be nowhere near anyone's thoughts since he was a car crash of a manager and a Bankie to boot!

I never saw him play but he had a decent enough career.
