Today’s figures are almost universally good. I hope this focuses the mind of the SG, esp given the fall in care homes where we can see the impact of vaccination working. I know someone (hopefully facetiously) wondered whether this was due to the “at risk” people having died - care homes are constantly “topped up” with new at risk people. The drop they are seeing is far higher than in the community, and at younger age groups. Given they were done first, and we are now 3 weeks or so past a big chunk having been done, I’m really hopeful that we will see a massive fall by the end of this month / midway through March. They are. But my concern was about next winter. The message is essentially that, even with the almost complete absence of hospitalisations and deaths, an increase in cases next winter would result in another lockdown. I don't see how they can think that is either sensible or acceptable. What would such draconian measures in that scenario achieve? Michael W
The press and media, at least at national level, are enjoying this - easy stories and headlines for them without having to even try. The journalists working for said publications are free to swan around as they so wish as well. No interest at all in challenging government statements about undiscovered variants. They hear that and that's the front four pages filled.

Like him, I'd assume that they haven't been topped up to precovid levels, who on earth would put their elderly relatives in a care home at the moment if they didn't have houses and baubles to leave.

Scosha
There is zero chance of a lockdown without furlough. It's sad to admit but I hope the UK Govt quite rightly tell NS to do one if she asks for furlough to return next winter. If hospitals aren't under pressure, deaths are minimal, there's no need for another lockdown as it will obviously show the vaccine works.

People who couldn't cope or whose relatives need round the clock specialist care

Ahhhh smashing, and we're sending them back next week to allow positive cases to shoot through the roof again.

I did have a wee laugh last night about us having 3 folk in ICU and Nicola telling us we're not allowed out.
Todd_is_God
Compare and contrast the mood music in posterchild countries like NZ to here. NZ - low prevelance & high vaccination = normality. Full removal of all restrictions. Scotland - low prevelance & high vaccination = restrictions & lockdown watch.
