Trying to avoid a full heads-gone at the places of worship one.  I get the religion is important to a lot of people, I get that churches, mosques, synagogues etc. all do good work in their local community and I also understand that there are religious festivals coming up.
But at the same time, is it not wrong for the government to start cherry-picking what indoor socialising is acceptable, while preaching to us about the science?  It either is or isn't "safe" for 50 people to meet indoors with social distancing/masks, so why allow it for certain reasons but not others if this is a purely scientific decision? All of the arguments made for places of worship could be be applied to any number of clubs or organisations who will continue to be closed for some time.
Just to balance the frustration at that policy, I am pleased for there at least to be acknowledgement that further easing can happen should the data continue to go the way it is currently going and that vaccines appear to be reducing not only hesitations and deaths, but transmission too.  Will be interesting to see what the route-map looks like next Tuesday.

The road map next Tuesday is what matters - having a heads gone over today really is pointless.

hahahahahahahha...aye that’s not gonna stop the tin foil hat brigade from losing theirs minds. Cigars back into storage for a few hours. Rinse and repeat.

The only thing I can imagine that "justifies" it over cinemas, cafes etc is that the turnover of people in a church in one day will likely be much smaller than what goes through a café or restaurant. I have nothing to back that up however.

How on earth can it be inherently less safe for me to meet up with two other pals, who don't live with each other, socially distanced but outside than 50 (mostly) socially distanced strangers indoors given what we're told about the virus spreading indoors?

It's not an issue though cos I don't have two pals to meet up with.

Especially considering singing / chanting is considered one of the most "dangerous" activities in terms of spread you can do indoors, to the extent no music was allowed in a pub.

Did they say anything about hymns actually, maybe that they're not allowed and it's just sermons and praying?

I reckon if there's another 'gathering' like Sunday they'll ask the league to postpone games. All eyes on the Old Firm in a couple of weeks then...

It would be the wrong thing to do IMO but nothing would surprise me now

It would be incredibly petty but they hate working class football fans.

Patrick Harvie's comments today were unbelievable. He thinks that Rangers are responsible for what their fans get up to in George Square but no one in the Scottish Government has to carry the can for sending Covid into care homes. A joke party for middle class wankers.

I'm no lover of Rangers but to say they are responsible is ludicrous, in the same way Celtic weren't responsible for the demonstrations outside their stadium and the antics that entailed.

Football clubs can't get their fans that attend matches to sit down, not let off pyro, not bring drink in and not smoke and take gear in the bogs. But they are meant to stand down thousands of young guys who have been bored out their tits for a year and planning a title celebration for months with a fucking tweet.

But it's much better PR to blame the football club than admit that we have no way in this country of stopping a gathering of a few thousand that was planned for days / weeks on social media...

As of Friday I open the Church of Moonster and we will be having our first service in my fucking living room, this Friday night. Applications for membership are now being received. Requirement of membership is the ability to afford and transport a crate of Tennents from your home to the place of worship. PMs now open.
You make a fair point. What constitutes a place of religion. Uk muslims outwith larger towns and cities meet to pray in what is basically a room within a house. Would that be recognised as a place of worship ?

I've no doubt attendees of religious institutions have a far greater representation in governments at all levels than their numbers deserve in Scotland.

I think that all the Holy Willies that are greeting about the police doing nothing are missing that the police probably wanted them all in George Square where they have tactics for dealing with protests rather than celebrations popping up all over the city which would have had more potential for violence.

People power always wins when they go onto the streets in large numbers.

Looking at Travelling Tabby, hospital numbers are down by 170 week-on-week and ICU numbers are down by a whopping 21 week-on-week.

That is some fantastic progress.

Now only 50 in ICU across Scotland is great too.

Concerning though that the known delay in vaccine supply is ongoing for nearly 3 weeks now though. Is there any news on when this is going to get back to the levels of 50-60k per day we were seeing? As it's currently only a third of that between the two doses.

Pretty much, yes.
It will take a different virus to evade the vaccine, not a mutation.
The other thing I read is if the spike protein on the virus mutates too far to avoid vaccines, it could no longer be able to bind to the cell receptor it uses to get into cells and replicate. In that case it would die out.

Not really. It was always known that the actual drop in supply was to last 4 weeks.

Supply has been back to normal for 2 weeks now, with a considerable dip again due next week for 1 week.

The delay in going back to around 400k a week will be to ensure once we get back there we won't slow down again due to further 1 week supply dips in w/c 29/3 & 12/4

I don't disagree with that, and that's why I'm trying (possibly failing) to look at it without a headloss.

I think it maybe just irks people that after so long of being deprived of meaningful social interaction, the first thing to come back is places of worship. In a secular society that is a bit contentious but I did say I can understand some of the arguments for it. Even if those arguments could be applied to lots of other groups.

That said, I was buoyed by the fact it's an accelerated easing and there was definite chat of easing things faster if positive trends continue.

So you can meet 3 other people from 1 other household outdoors.
Unless you believe in a mythical man in the sky, if you do you are able to meet 49 people indoors.
Jason Leitch is running this himself eh? [emoji23]
Need to start the Church of Tennants.

I'll be sitting with a pal in the garden with a bag of cans freezing my balls off watching United draw 0-0 with Aberdeen on Saturday and I'm nearly in tears at the thought of it.

That’ll be some sesh. The game isn’t until the 20th!

Churches do enough for the homeless without becoming their landlords as well.
