alta-pete
I think its a case of SG's rules being overruled by WM. Make of that what you will - WM allows SG to make their own on the hoof rules and measures for the Scottish population right up until the point where the rest of the world gets a look in and WM has then decided one part of the UK isn't going to be made to look petty and ill-informed on the world stage. Who'd you back in such circumstance?
Abdul_Latif
SG update - 6 more months, to get through winter of this charade at the least. Saved you watching the rest.
Lyle Lanley
Nicola Sturgeon begins her Covid update to parliament by giving the latest statistics on Covid cases and vaccinations. She says the number of cases is continuing to fall in Scotland and there is no need to introduce any tighter restrictions. But she says the level of infection does remain relatively high and so it is prudent to keep in place the remaining "mitigations" such as face coverings.

I imagine there will be no vaccination or testing requirements for any delegates entering the country either. Nice to see Sturgeon and the Scottish Government be utter hypocrites when it suits. Would she even have any say in the matter? She'd have to do what she's told by Boris who would be told what to do if he wants to hold COP26. It's simply another one rule for them situation.
Lyle Lanley
FM: "Covid certification remains, in the Scottish Government’s view, a proportionate way of encouraging people to get vaccinated, and also of helping large events and night-time hospitality to keep operating during a potentially difficult winter." So basically either use vaccine passports or large events and night time hospitality will be closed.

Probably because the authorities are hoping that delegates to Cop26 will be less likely to be chewing the faces off each other and getting into each others' pants than the rampant shaggers who get howffed in about it in night clubs. Mind you, I've been to some conferences that..... well, that's another story...
Abdul_Latif
Absolute shit the bed stuff here. NS stating that we don’t know how difficult the winter will be, so we are keeping these mitigations in place just in case, rather than introducing them if things look to be on a concerning trajectory.
Lyle Lanley
There is still a requirement for passengers to take a Covid test on the 2nd day after their arrival in Scotland.

Yup, just like vaccine passports. 44 minutes ago, welshbairn said: Probably because the vaccine app for domestic use is more about encouraging vaccine uptake than any direct health benefits. Scotland sure has struggled for vaccine uptake! Oh no, wait, we became one of the most vaxxed countries on the planet before this coercive, authoritarian bullshit. 20 minutes ago, Abdul_Latif said: Absolute shit the bed stuff here. Utterly unacceptable knicker-wetting pish, but then that's no surprise from this tinpot administration. It will be April/May at the earliest before there is any movement on the Covid theatrics. Meanwhile, England and the Nordics will get through tHiS dIfFiCuLt WiNtEr without them. Embarrassing. Looks like the only relaxation of the travel rules is accepting Chinese and Russian vaccines which they don't for ordinary punters for some petty political reason probably. https://ukcop26.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/FAQs-Planning-your-Journey-to-COP26.pdf

How the f**k do we save energy while schools, hospitals and nursing home boilers are running their tits off for 6 months over a Scottish winter cause all the windows are open?!

Im sure Biden and the pope will do everything they can to ensure they meet Nicola’s standards. Cop26 absolutely should have been cancelled, its amazing, NHS on its knees and the increased demand this will cause and disruption through protests etc but its somehow ok? Is it because if they held the conference digitally that NS wouldnt get to raise her profile? -

In fairness some of our rules are actually quite lax in comparison to some of our European neighbours. Take Spain and Portugal, they have both virtually eradicated covid (under 30 per 100,000 currently), yet face masks remain compulsory and strictly adhered to in all public transport, enclosed spaces and even in open stands at the football.
