Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Don't gather in groups - apart from Christmas day. Even Covid wants a bit of turkey and a bevvy so takes the day aff.

The behavioural psychologists in the Nudge Unit have obviously identified Christmas Day and summer holidays as the most sacred things to the average British consumer so they frame restrictions on every day life as neccessary to enable the winter and summer festivals.

Even slaves in America and WWI got to celebrate Christmas.

Be some laugh if cases start levelling off / dropping by the weekend or something.
Hopefully they do and these arseholes get shown up for the knickerwetting nannies that they are.
If cases drop before Christmas they should all resign.

Surely they would simply claim that was down to their interventions today so they can't really lose in either scenario.

They can claim all they like. They used "it takes 3 weeks to see any impact" to support their restrictions before so can't have it both ways.

In a way they haven't previously, they are going to do damage with these measures. If they've flown in with both feet and got it wrong then they should go.

This is exactly the problem.  If this turns out to be a storm in a teacup they’ll call themselves heroes (despite having had no time for NPI’s to make any actual difference).  Of course if England does f**k all and has the same storm in a teacup that little fact will be ignored.

That's going to be problematic for some venues. I can imagine there will be further cancellations of Christmas bookings not by the customers, but by venues themselves who will find it difficult to comply.

At this point, it’s still the onus on the individual to decide whether they want to take the risk or not.  For hotels, bars and restaurants, if the majority of folk aren’t cancelling, there’s no reason for them to turn away the money.  Especially if there’s likely to be a further tightening of restrictions in the new year

Are we supposed to take this data seriously?
700,000 cases per day, doubling every 2-3 days [emoji23][emoji23]

The Javid 200k infections quote was explained as confirmed cases x 4 ie testing picked up 20-25% of actual cases. That was feasible at the weekend rate but for that figure to be anywhere near accurate today confirmed cases would need to have been about 180k rather than the actual 60k

So gigs and nightclubs still on, but you can only hang around in groups of 3 separate family units?

This fucking tinpot, no idea what the f**k it’s doing government man!

It’s ludicrous. Unless you see it as merely one step away from another lockdown, in which case that will be presented as definitive action.

I  generally like this SNP government, but today is nothing short of shambolic.

Isn't the 3 households advice only applicable in a household setting, pretty sure that's how it was put.

I thought the restrictions were going to exist in hospitality, but are only advice in households?

This is such a mess it’s like a sketch show.

That's if it's guidance.

If it's not then they will have to comply.

It's a fucking mess.

Yet again, people seem really disappointed that the restrictions they are dead against didn’t happen.

Give it a fucking rest.

People are going to lose jobs and many are going to struggle with their mental health based on the guidance / restrictions today.

If you can’t see that, and instead want to point score, you are not even worth engaging with.

The next stage is to get middle aged nationalists snobs sneering at nightclubs again due to the oddities in the rules (Glenn Campbell has already started this) and the contradictions will lead to restrictions on them, just so they’re seen to be caring.

Glenn Campbell is a nationalist?
