Yeah, iirc they hadn't factored in the likelihood of first year uni students wanting to party.

I think they were two physicists who had come up with the model. Just goes to show that it's not just on p&b you find people who seem to consider themselves more knowledgeable than people who have studied epidemiology for their entire lives.

Minter for those dedicating their lives to a field, only for the one time their skills are really needed, to get it so wrong, though.

Anyone who is looking at the blue bars on this chart and can come to the conclusion that they are "rising quickly" is seeing what they want to see.

You, of all people, are accusing people of "seeing what they want to see"? Does your general lack of self awareness allow you to see just a smidgen of irony in that?

They are few individuals out there more guilty of interpreting facts, making assumptions to support an inflexible narrative, or "seeing what they want to see" than yourself.

Probably better than dedicating your entire life to learning absolutely nothing and then chucking out those uneducated views on an hourly basis on here.

Cases overall in America have fallen by more than 40% since mid-July, though.

A bunch of young students living and interacting mainly with themselves getting it and getting over it might not be the worst thing either.

Not sure why you keep beating this drum when there is plenty of evidence of young people becoming seriously ill and dying and of young people being left with serious health problems from covid-19 infection.

You're in complete denial.

The same is true of any virus, though.

Covid-19 is not special or unique in that regard.

So you're fine with exposing young people to illness, potential death, and potential long-lasting ill health?

No big deal, aye.

What, like every day before 2020?

No. Since before 2020 there wasn't a novel virus firing round the world out of control killing people.

As I said. You are in complete denial. You are not processing what is going on here.

Like the one that has been involved in the death of *checks notes* twenty-eight people under the age of 45 in Scotland?

Somehow I'm sure the young people aren't too worried.

You may have noticed that there have been some measures in place to stop it killing more than that. You think firing young people off into uni will be just fine. That's madness.

And we have reason to believe it will leave young people with long-term effects.

You are in denial and you are constantly asserting things you have no evidence for. You should stop it.

And you may have noticed that young people really haven't given a flying f**k about those measures - they've been gathering in each others houses for months 😂

Update for TiG since he was saying earlier that he doesn't know what other countries are doing in the face of rising cases.

Georgia has suspended students' return to schools.

Armenia has extended its border closure till the new year.

Latvia has ended its travel bubble with its Baltic neighbours over rising case numbers.

All today alone. Added to the Austrian tightening of rules. Probably soon to be added to by a tightening in France which is being discussed in a cabinet meeting today. Probably in Hungary too, hinted at on the radio today by Orban.  Also look out for Greece joining in soon.

ETA: Switzerland has also tightened its entry rules.

And that's only Europe. And that's only today.

But, yes, the Scottish government truly stands alone here.

Really glad you are in a nice calm place riding this out btw. Would hate to see how worked up you would get otherwise.

Not sure how worked up you think someone has to be to type out some information.

It's not a stressful thing to do.

It's safe to say that next to nobody under 40 is buying this 'but... LONG COVID!!!111!!!' hysteria. The risk of serious infection is so minimal to that group - unless you have a serious pre-existing condition or are a massive fatty - that it is not worth taking into account on an everyday basis. You'd be as well worrying about getting run over by a bus. The granny-killer line at least has a semblance of seems legit to it by comparison, but last time I checked it was still the job of the government and not individual behaviour to keep vulnerable health categories safe.

If they weren't such utter shitebags then they'd just punt everyone over 50 into shielding right now but instead it is going to be more dogshit 'sacrifices' all round instead.
