This is true, but any measure which involves a division by a small denominator (in this case population) is susceptible to large fluctuations being driven by very small changes in the underlying numbers (or even random noise). The population of East Renfrewshire is under 100,000, so every single individual case leads to the rate increasing by more than 1.

This means that a very small number of cases, localised to a single area (eg an outbreak of 20 cases in a school) can lead to a massive increase in the case rate. That isn't true of the larger areas.

It's also the problem with using council areas like East Renfrewshire which is pretty much a gerrymandered area.

Why do we leave the briefing in Scotland to go to opposition leaders, but this doesn’t happen in the UK ones?

i believe it's because Scot Gov were doing them daily long after BoJo and his pals had stopped and Douglas Ross etc. thought that Sturgeon was using it as a political opportunity rather that a public information update so the BBC decided that they needed to show balance and have opposition heads on for opinion.

This screams "woke pish" to me 🤣

She knows how to keep her minions satisfied. They'll be back slapping and sharing that around all day via zoom.

Watching England open up but aye at least we call a variant something slightly more PC.

It was like the Yer Having A Laugh Show with the Three Stooges today.

Covid bingo very much to the forefront and the highlights included:

Reason to belive

To be a bit more confident the vaccine will prevail

Hospital numbers down

Travel restrictions hopefully temporary

A much greater degree of normality

We still have to protect the NHS

We need greater confidence in the jag

Watched up until the first couple of questions and then turned it off in disgust.

Is she being Fucking serious here.  This really and truly cannot continue.

It's political correctness. Given Trump has recently been slapped over calling COVID-19 the Chinese virus there will be a lot of body swerving and avoidance of being labelled racist by the yellow and green haired middle class radical left. April 02 just doesn't have the menace and ring to it, it just sounds like a type of flower, maybe call it the Indomidous variant or Variantzilla or something.

Probably quite upsetting for anyone called April.

Why was it just the Kent variant and not the British variant or the English variant? None of the other ones were so localised.

Is it not just here it was called the Kent variant and elsewhere it was the UK variant?

The Yorkshire one is.    Calling it the British variant left them out of options if another one cropped up.
