It must be one of the few professional sports where folk watching haven’t a clue how long’s to go. It’s a bit shambolic when you think about it. It should be technically simple. All the referee needs to do is be able to operate a stopwatch competently. I fear that might be where the plan comes unstuck
10menwent2mow
It should be technically simple. All the referee needs to do is be able to operate a stopwatch competently. I fear that might be where the plan comes unstuckThat's why I think it should be taken out of the hands of the ref. If there is a flash point with half a dozen players coming together, the refs immediate focus is sorting that out, players arent going to stop arguing while the ref says 'hang on til I stop my watch'. Same goes for players being badly injured, refs immediate concern is the welfare of the player, may forget to stop his watch and them has no clue how long the player was down for.VAR in England seems to have made it worse, some of the stoppage time being added on when VAR had been involved has been ridiculously under in games I've watched.

G-MAN
Also. 9 times out of 10 the Ref will allow play to continue after injury time is up if A. A team wins a corner/FK B. A team is on the attackExcept Sunday of course.
DG.Roma
On 11/01/2021 at 11:23, 10menwent2mow said: None of this arbitrary 30 seconds nonsense At least if the arbitrary 30 seconds for each substitution and goal was followed we'd be getting somewhere, the vast majority of the time the added on time doesn't even cover that. There seems to be a default 1 minute at the end of the 1st half, 3 at the end of the second, no matter what has gone on. I wouldn't be surprised if at least a third of all games in Scotland follow that, except of course the 1st halves that end exactly on the 45, which also happens regularly and is obviously nonsense. Another bugbear is the lack of time added for time lost during added time. How many times do you see something like this... Board help up at 90 minutes shows 3. Ball goes out for goal kick at 90.22, substitution is made, slowly, goalie eventually kicks the ball at 91.53, ball in the air, team desperate to win the ball back commits a foul at 91.58, free kick is eventually taken at 92.46, ball goes out for a goal kick, losing side's keeper takes it as quickly as he can, ref blows for full time bang on 93.00 with barely 30 seconds of added time actually played.
