This is all about the Asian market. Particularly East Asia for the moment but with ever growing "potential" in South East Asia and South Asia. The West Asian market is less lucrative, there's fewer wealthy Saudi households than we might think, but they could definitely be involved in a pay-to-play sort of arrangement, ie. Arabian peninsula governments throwing buckets of sponsorship money at the whole thing to guarantee they get to be a part of it.

This isn't about Europe as the market has long since reached saturation level here, there's no more money to be squeezed from it.

TBF, football is the only industry where Europe has a dominant position, for all other sectors it's a declining backwater in a demographic crunch.

Brazilian clubs have a storied history but only took two decades or to lose all competitiveness globally.

I don't know where the future center of football will be, but I'd be pretty shocked if it's Europe in 50-60 years. Why would it be?

You can't beat the demographic odds forever.

It's best hope would actually be a pan European model, it's the whole point of the EU to join together and have credibility when facing much larger nations like China or the US.

But agreed the funniest thing about all this is The Greed is Good* league pretending to be the upstanding good guys in all this. They're not opposed to a Super League, they want to be the Super League.

*Credit to the excellent Brian Glanville on this, one of the few journalists not to drink the Barclays Kool-Aid.
