East Fife v Peterhead Double header Part 1 : The relegation derby

Recommended Posts

Rock bottom and after watching them last week for the first time in ages, I'm not surprised. Very disjointed, full of individuals and a leaky defence. Plenty talk in the papers by the players on how good a team they are and will be up challenging. It's going to be a long season unless the right changes are made now!!!

Don't recall Brett making a save. 3 shots on target, 3-0 win. Take it though, we'd have been marooned at the bottom had we lost.

Keeper seems pretty confident in his positioning, that he can just leave the ball to hit the woodwork though.

Is that the one that he tipped it onto the post and therefore a great save?

An overwhelming feeling of relief to get the first victory on the board. It wasn’t pretty and yes we rode our luck in the first half but the players put in a shift and got the breaks. We looked a team short in confidence in the first half and Peterhead were by far the better team. Only a fantastic save by Gallagher and the woodwork kept the scoring blank. As they say goals change games and from the minute we went in front we grew in confidence and never looked back. Kevin Smith was the main man doing his fox in the box scoring the first, then playing a great through ball to draw the penalty. Peterhead looked she’ll shocked at 3 nil and it certainly wasn’t a true reflection on proceedings. Hope we can take confidence from the result and clean sheet. Was impressed with Daniel Higgins was solid in the heart of defence and he was commanding when cross balls came in our box. Kieran Miller also had a great game and covered every inch of the park. A good victory in what was a must win game.

Peterhead could have been 3 up af half time .EastFife got away with it and the introduction of Denholm and more support up front for Smith changed the game.

Peterhead played some neat stuff but looked vulnerable at the back when east Fife decided to push forward rather than sitting back trying to survive.

I think it was more about having the opportunity to push forward, having scored the first goal.

Darren had decided to shore up the defence after Brora.

Was it sitting back trying to survive or was it playing two holding midfielders in front of a back four and hoping to frustrate Peterhead?

In the first half we got pummelled at times but kept our shape and didn't concede. We were excellent in the second half.

Whatever the game plan was, it worked. But it it needed the 11 players on the park staying focused for the duration and giving 100% for the cause. Again, that worked. Not easy when confidence amongst the squad must have been challenged, given the start to the season.

No he didn’t, he missed our only 3 shots on goal. 1/ He was posted missing from his goal rushing out to challenge for the ball, 2/ He went the wrong way for the penalty, and 3/ Ball played along the bye line with Denholm poking the ball in from 1 metre if that at the near post. Where was the goalkeeper.?

Also agree with previous poster that Gallagher touched the shot on to the post. Good save.

Rode our luck at times in the first half but 2nd half was much better and ended up deserved winners.
Important that we build on the 2nd half performance and start showing this for the whole match and not just one half.

Agreed but manager must also on this occasion be credited for changing things in the second half- we looked like a different team in the second half…
