To make it simple, here it is again "How can someone believe that his nation is the UK, yet believe that his national team is Scotland?" Where people currently reside has absolutely f*ck all to do with their nationality. I've lived in Manchester & London, however, when I did stay down south, I wouldn't expect a vote in a indyref. However, I'm still Scottish. Edited October 10, 2021 by lichtgilphead

We're all British and we're blessed with regional teams to support. Ours happen to Scottish - which makes us both happy. You, though, want to make a bunch of kickballers - most of whom don;t live in Scotland - into a pathetic cause célèbre. I choose just to enjoy football. -

lichtgilphead
That's beyond pathetic. My current passport still says "European Union", so, in your opinIon should I support Luxemburg, Belgium, Greece or Eire when they play each other? Who should I support when Wales play England? I'm struggling to pick my favourite region.

Then why do you support a xenophobic state and, more pertinently, why do you frequently use xenophobic, racist language and think it’s ok to promote the Tweets of extremists so vile they get banned from social media platforms?

You know being British isn’t something I identify with It’s a bit of a foreign concept to me The former Welsh MP Gwynford Evans once described Britishness as…. “A political synonym for Englishness which extends English culture over the Scots, the Welsh, and the Irish.“ Which I struggle to disagree with to be honest but I wouldn’t begrudge anyone who does since identity it’s such an individual thing. What I do find strange, is when people try to force an identity on you or when they get angry that you don’t share part of that identity They can’t just allow people to be Scottish without trying to force another identity on you or sticking a flag everywhere They say you can be both Scottish and British.. but they’re only happy when this concept of Britishness is the dominant culture Scottishness is something to be mocked and dismissed by unionist in my experience Edit: When unionist refuse to recognise the four nations of the UK, all that does for me is solidify my position on identity Edited October 11, 2021 by Clown Job
Zern
British nationalism does have something of a reputation. Just do a Google image search an count the nazi salutes that appear. Nick Griffin will make an appearance. The current Brexity Britishness has the same exclusionary roots. It treats other EU citizens as lesser. Even though it's UK citizens that have lost their rights. It is not appealing at all.

Who'd have thought it? Have your views on independence changed since 2014? I voted Yes in 2014, and nothing since then has made me think that I was wrong to do so. If anything, events since then have only reinforced my belief that Scotland should be an independent country. Wanted it to be over with a decisive outcome one way or the other more than anything else back in 2014 to get back to a politics that doesn't revolve around competing nationalisms as not hugely fussed either way as long as EU membership was still involved and find the zealots on both sides deeply off-putting. Doubt there's any chance of normal politics any time soon after the Brexit vote went the wrong way and Boris went full UKIP with the Tory party.
