Arthur Labinjo-Hughes case

Another appalling case - magistrates overruled social workers who wanted drug testing of a couple who were due to receive custody of their infant son. The parents both had significant cannabis habits, which was identified as a concern. The couple subsequently murdered the child, sentencing is this Friday.

Another horrific case of child murder

This lead me to reading this, probably the most disturbing case in this ilk I’ve ever heard of. Don’t read past the warning if it upsets you.

Has this always happened and we’ve either not heard of it or it wasn’t reported? If not, why has this increased?  The cases all seem to have similar aspects, male partners attacking children they’ve moved into the home off, child’s mother doesn’t protect them or joins in abuse, drugs and alcohol also present. Is there something more going on?

"domestic violence advisor" WTF?

Those 2 cases are horrendous. (I stopped reading the second story.)

Awful. Social Workers are often accused of not being stringent enough, and then when they are they get overruled.

Are justice of peace not fairly basic training, often seen as stalwards of community types.

Rather than you know, experienced trained individuals?

I see the "parents" have been sentenced to 29 & 27 years respectively.

Can't be a cannabis habit, we've had annoying c***s harp on for years about how cannabis isn't addictive at all.

Here's another case - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hereford-worcester-65857668

If the Nazis had ever come to power in the UK, they would have had ample candidates for concentration camp guards.

Two things stand out in that

'Jurors heard harrowing 999 calls from neighbours who tried to raise the alarm, before Alfie eventually died from the brutal regime. Some neighbours heard him screaming as he was forced into the cold baths and others reported seeing him standing in the garden at night "like a statue" while being berated by Howell.'

'Neighbours also made repeated calls to police after hearing screaming and crying coming from both inside and outside the family home.
A safeguarding review will now explore what more could have been done to save Alfie.'

And

"We must endeavour to learn lessons from Alfie's murder to help ensure that such a horrific event never happens again."

I know families can make it very difficult for the authorities and are manipulative and hide their abuse, but this doesn't appear that hidden, so even more so than usual the "learn lessons" comments are a joke.

I thought that was pretty pathetic myself.
