GNU_Linux
Divisional Finals The team with the best regular season record in CFL history turning the ball over nine times & getting scudded wasn't on my bingo card. In the entire season the Argos had only turned the ball over 27 times. Shout out to the Al's S Marc-Antoine Dequoy having a 101yd TD off of a pick six on the game opening drive.
GNU_Linux
110th Grey Cup box score & recap Montreal upset the odds for the 2nd week in a row to lift their 8th Grey Cup & first since 2010 back when goat & current OC Anthony Calvillo was under centre. Als QB Cody Fajardo named MVP & teamate WR Tyson Philpot named Most Outstanding Canadian. Philpot won the game for the Als with 13 seconds on the clock.
GNU_Linux
In a story that somehow slipped under my radar at the end of September the USFL & XFL in a common sense move announced plans to merge. A long term secondary outdoor professional league might actually come to fruition. The Arena Football League that has been dormant since 2019 is being relaunched for 2024.
GNU_Linux
The XFL & USFL merger has went through & the new league will be called the United Football League with the USFL & XFL becoming conferences of the new league. Only half of the 16 teams have survived with the 8 surviving teams playing in two conferences for a 10 game regular season where the top two from each conference move onto the playoffs. Season starts March 30th & will run until a date tba. The XFL casualties are the Seattle Sea Dragons, Vega Vipers, Houston Roughnecks & Orlando Guardians. The USFL obituary list is the New Jersey Generals, Philadelphia Stars, Pittsburgh Maulers & New Orleans Breakers. The Houston side is the office & infrastructure of the the Gamblers adopting the name of the XFL side. In a striking move of originality this is the third league to be called the UFL following an early 60's minor league & a minor league that ran 2009-2012

GNU_Linux
CFL 2024 Week 1 The off-season was very much overshadowed by reigning MOP QB Chad Kelly of the Argos being given a minimum nine game suspension for the sexual harassment & verbal abuse of a former strength & conditioning coach who was subsequently fired after reporting the harassment. A settlement has since been reached between the parties. Kelly's reinstatement is pending the completion of counseling conducted by a gender based violence expert & assessments by an independent expert. Als DL Shawn Lemon after investigation has been found to have bet on games in 2021 during his time with the Stampders albeit with no indication of match fixing etc or other parties being involved. Lemon is still currently eligible to play pending arbitration. The episode gets weird as Lemon initially retired on the 10th of April but un-retired after having been given an indefinite suspension from the CFL & lodging an appeal. Redblacks QB Jeremiah Masoli might be the most cursed man in football. Masoli who joined the Redblacks in 2022 only played four games in 2022 before suffering a season ending leg fracture at the hands of meathead shitlord Garret Marino. Masoli returned to the field after exactly a full year out only to last a quarter & a bit suffering what was a season ending ruptured Achilles. Enter 2024 & Masoli has been placed on the six game IL after being limited in practice in the build up to the Redblacks season opener tonight. One of the changes brought in for this season was microchips being installed into match balls for stats & the like but the kickers union aren't best pleased for the perceived impact on kicking accuracy. Blue Bombers Sergio Castillo who had a 90% success rate last season was the first to go public with his dislike of the change after going 1/3 & missing a convert & also cited a success rate of only 60% in training camp with the new balls. Other kickers came out in support & voice their concerns which the league has responded to by reversing the decision on chipped balls being mandatory to use. The decision will be revisited prior to the start of the 2025 season.
