The Queen of the South thread

Recommended Posts

Let's take a deeper intake of the situation and look at what is happening, Walking over part-time teams in a League full of nobodies just does not inspire floating fans to take a look at tiddly teams such as Albion Rovers, Forfar Athletic, Stranraer or Stenhousemuir. To see these clubs come to the town with such consistent frequency simply does not excite most of the townsfolk to leave the comfort of their homes or bookies to sit/stand and watch such drab stuff on the pitch. Even if Queens do reach the challenging places for a rise to the top League, it might take more than one attempt at promotion to entice the local populace to start showing a tad more endeavour or tolerance to what is now happening at Palmerston. I can't get myself up for a visit from East Fife or Brechin City and I'm almost certain that is one of the main reasons that no one really takes that much interest by posting their presence at home matches. I know that some posters on here will want to crucify me for posting what I see as one of the main factors for low attendances, but this is certainly why I do not attend as much as I should, the price is another reason, but that is starting to stray away from what is really the main problem. Taking Queens seriously is what we should be working on.

I dont think many would disagree with you, I certainly dont. But Im not sure how what you are saying ties in with a lack of ambition from the club.

Do people actually boycott us? Surely not that many do. Is traveling to Dumfries that awful almost the entirety is motorway or by Train.

But that's exactly it, it's too long to go on a Saturday and certainly not for a mid-week game. I don't go for getting gassed afore a game and would never join the Travel Club (Drinkers Association) simply to get a good bevvy before going to the game. Well it's not for me anyway, but maybe that is why there are only a couple of buses leaving for a record breaking season.

It's going to be 50 years of being a small fry team, how can we expect Doonhamers to go and watch Queens over the Champions League games on the telly or the fast declining Old Firm?

Yes, but what do you suggest the club do about it? What do mean by "ambition"?

I know the board of directors have their hearts in the right place, but simply being part of the second level is no longer enough. I would want Queens to become a Saint Mirren, Saint Johnstone, Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Ross County, Kilmarnock, Dundee or even Motherwell, I know we should be hoping to aspire to their level, but as I have posted previously, the proof is in the pudding.

Two admins and managed by Bomber Brown no thanks, Ross County have Roy Mcgregor behind them and Killie are skint.

This is a debate mate, if you can't hack it, then you know where to go. We are not all after local games with the likes of Annan or Stranraer.

Well if it's a debate, answer the point about how we should show more 'ambition'. In several posts since bringing it up, you've provided nothing but vague wish-lists.

Is that you Truthy?

I think you have completely misunderstood the point he was making ;)

Would simply just love to see top flight football in Dumfries, I've never seen it and would like to be enticed a bit more often. Show me that there is something above the John Dempster, Jimmy Donald, Peter Dickson and Allan Ball's level, and I WILL go to some home games.

Sorry, I'm not Truthy.

Expensive and time consuming though in comparison to other games though, probably. I always went by supporters bus.
