Too many vested interests for the USA to break up like that, imo.

Federal minimum wage for a tipped job - so waiters, bar staff etc - is $2.15, which is why they work for their tips. For an untipped job - everything else basically - it’s $7.25 States and cities are allowed to set their own tho. In Illinois as a whole, that goes to $8 and $12 for tipped and untipped and then in Cook County (Chicago, essentially), it’s $9 and $15. DA Baracus
Although we unfortunately have racism here, it's nowhere near as bad as it is in the US.

Like most countries i can't see the US as inherently good or bad. Sure, they egged us on into illegally invading iraq but then they made It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Multiple mass shootings vs the cheeseburger. Support for Israeli occupation vs Surfer Rosa. Etc I think we should also recognise that the US military's willingness to take WW1 scale casualties in WW2 was critical to the survival of democracy, however flawed current versions may be. Maybe if they had been a bit more accurate with their artillery fire they could have reduced that a wee bit...

Where I am now, it's pretty much the dream of many to move to the US and marry a rich American (all Americans are rich of course) and they've seen and heard so many others who have done that. However, those who have may be being more than economical with the truth and paint a picture not exactly in line with reality. And, they only hear from the "successful" ones and the less successful are never heard from again so there's little or no balance. To many it really does appear to be a utopia.

The big thing that stops me using racism as a stick to beat the USA with too much is the fact that it was the result of slavery and the triangular trade, which built some awfy nice buildings in Glasgow. It is brutal though and no amount of representation at the highest level can distract from it.

I seem to remember seeing a medical bill where they charged the patient more for ‘emotional support’ where the doctor offered her tissues or something.
Dan Steele
Mrs SL had a bad horse riding accident in Monument Valley. She needed a load of staples for a bad head wound (aye, she zips up the back), severe bruising and wrist damage. She was in hospital for over 8 hours, drips, the lot. Total cost was just over $200.00 dollars and I paid as we left. It was a Navajo hospital in Navajo jurisdiction. The standard of treatment was incredible. I still wonder how much all that would have cost in "the other America". Should add it was 2001.
