DiegoDiego
Do self-employed folk not take out insurance to cover this sort of thing?

Not cheap but like all insurance policies can provide cover depending on T&C’s. One way to “self-insure” is to make sure you have built up an emergency fund of perhaps 6 months living expenses. Seems that Fred hasn’t considered that. Wilma will be on his case now.

Molotov
A few years ago, Manuel Neuer forgot his wallet in a taxi. The taxi driver then decided to travel 120KM to go to Neuer's house and return his wallet which had €800, his ID, and two credit cards. In return, Neuer sent him a signed shirt to thank him. But the taxi driver explained that he was very disappointed and angry after Neuer's gesture: "This gift is a joke. The trip cost me €400. I have four children to feed. I can't do anything with this shirt. Neuer is a cheapskate!" “Under German law, an individual who stumbles across money of £425 or more is entitled to a five per cent finder's fee - with an additional three per cent for anything over that value. As a result, Hazir S was entitled to £29, with Sky Germany reporting the taxi driver's huge frustration.” Edited December 26, 2023 by Molotov

So f*ck him, the ungrateful git.
