welshbairn
Are you going? Ironically I'm going to be in the Isle of Man for it, if I'd known early enough I'd have gone to Guernsey instead..

welshbairn
Somebody said the Guernsey hotel prices have rocketed for this, I suppose the families of athletes would be enough to fill them up.

Not just the families - the athletes and various representatives of island associations will all be taking up space.

They’re usually quite creative in finding ways to accommodate the teams. When Shetland hosted it then they filled schools full of beds and had teams sleeping in classrooms.

I was working up there and they had athletes in the hospital accommodation, which handily overlooks Gilbertson Park

Guest Sheltie97
~ HALF TIME ~ Ynys Mon 1-0 Shetland Ynys Mon with an early goal at the start of the first half but the game has been quite even since, with Shetland perhaps playing the better football. Big second half coming up for the Blues. Come on Shetland!
Guest Sheltie97
~ FULL TIME ~ Ynys Mon 2-0 Shetland The full time whistle has gone at Corbet Field as Shetland succumb to a 2-0 defeat in their opening fixture of the Guernsey2023 Island Games. Not to worry though It’s a quick turnaround for Neil and his team, they’ll look to pick themselves up, dust themselves down and go again tomorrow night against the Isle of Man. Well done to each and every player tonight your efforts were recognised by those watching! Thank you to those who were in attendance and streamed the game for us back home, truly appreciated. Come on Shetland!
welshbairn
Not a great start for the Scottish islands, Western Isles lost 1-0 to Guernsey and Orkney drew 2-2 with Greenland.

Guest Sheltie97
https://www.facebook.com/people/Shetland-Football-Association/100046026884729/ Shetland Football Association 8 h · ~ FULL TIME ~ Falkland Islands 1-4 Shetland Shetland come away with a convincing 4-1 win over the Falkland Islands tonight at Northfield. The Blues opened the scoring when James Aitken was quickest to follow up a parried Declan Adamson strike in the 16th minute. They would double their lead through Harry Thomson just after the half hour mark when he finished off a James Aitken ball into the area prodding past the rushing keeper. Shetland took a 2-0 lead into the break, much less than their performance deserved as they found themselves camped in the Falkland Islands half for most of the first 45. The second half started in much the same vein with Shetland applying lots of pressure eager to build on their 2-0 advantage but it wasn’t until just after the hour mark that they extended their lead to 3-0. A foul on James Aitken in the penalty area allowed Declan Adamson to step up and convert low to the keepers right hand side. Falkland Islands didn’t give up and pulled a goal back for themselves to make the score 3-1, but this really their only effort in the second half. Shetland would put the game to bed in the 84th minute, again via the penalty spot. This time it was Connor Grant who was fouled in the area allowing Jack McShane, off the bench as a second half substitute for his senior Shetland Debut, to rifle home a birthday goal into the top corner. The result means that Shetland will now face Greenland on Thursday in the 7th & 8th place playoff. The boys will have a rest tomorrow to recharge the batteries before their final game. Superb result tonight, an excellent effort from all those in Blue. Special mentions to those debutants once again, Rory Henderson, Jack Simpson & Jack McShane!
