SHETLAND’S football squad put up an impressive display last night, beating the Falklands 4-1 at the Island Games – however they will not progress from the group stages.

Goals came from James Aitken and Harry Thomson in the first half and Declan Adamson and Jack McShane in the second.

Due to the way that the group table system works, only the top-ranking teams from the four groups progress to the semi-finals.

Ynys Mon, who beat Team Shetland on Sunday night, were also successful in their match against the Isle of Man yesterday. That means they’re at the top of group two with nine points.

Shetland is second with six, so they will now play Greenland on Thursday to determine 7th and 8th place.

Shetland secure 7th place with a 5-1 win. A pretty successful games with 3 wins out of 4 and 12 goals scored.

Orkney finished 10th after a 1-0 defeat against Isle of Man and Western Isles secured 11th with 2-1 comeback win against Menorca.
