Tweedmouth Rangers 4-1 Dalkeith Thistle

Christmas break arrives with 45% of program completed.

After a dire autumn Tweedmouth win again today to rise from the danger zone, and their 3 fellow contenders for the drop are the usual suspects from last time.

Few will be surprised at Bo'ness Athletic and Armadale leading the promotion hunt: their holiday clash at Newtown a week on Friday may prove pivotal in deciding title's destination. Mind blowing that just 7pts separate 3rd from 12th.

Got down to Berwick for the Tweedmouth v Dalkeith game today! Was a pretty slow match to get going, but once it did, it saw a couple of very good goals.

If you didn't know which side was which, but knew one was 3rd and the other bottom, you'd easily pick Tweedmouth as pushing for promotion with Dalkeith struggling.

Over the 90 minutes, Dalkeith were poor. 2nd half especially, Tweedmouth were far better, scored a cracking goal to go 2-1 ahead early in the 2nd half and never looked back, thoroughly deserving the 3 points.

That win lifts them out the relegation places and if today is close to their recent form, they look like they'll be safe.

With about 1/3 of both the season and the fixtures elapsed: time to take stock.

Bo'ness Athletic streaked clear but last night's loss show they're not invincible... Thornton holding onto coat-tails of pack... same old faces down in bottom third.

Boness are by far the best team in the league and Stirling uni have kicked on since management change

Not seen it mentioned but Dalkeith had unusually 'exotic' friendly on Saturday, when they hosted Californian side Temecula FC who are touring Scotland and northern England... they hail from what is effectively the American tier 5 (having played in tier 4 until last year) but Dalkeith swatted them aside 4-1.

They're undertaking an old fashioned-style tour with a game most days: drew 1-1 with Scoutable Utd at Nethercraigs on Friday then face Consett tomorrow, Newcastle Benfield on Thursday and Heaton Stannington on Friday.

"Winter is over" for league.

Bo'ness Athletic look good for title... faltering Armadale must beware charges from Thornton and Edinburgh South.

Quartet of Tweedmouth, Edinburgh Utd - who had a good win at Newburgh, and Ormiston likely battling for 4th bottom.

Armadale were not at the races at all yesterday. The defending for losing 2 goals in 2 min was awful.

South surprised me a little yesterday though.

3 points for South in the first 5 games then 9 straight wins in the league. Could make a late run for promotion

Another win tonight for South at Dalkeith. Still a few games in hand as well.

Last night's big wins mean Armadale are now just 3pts ahead of Thornton (with 4 games-in-hand) plus 11pts of Edinburgh South (with 6 games-in-hand) - Thistle's next 3 games now look huge: A v Tweedmouth this Sunday.... H v Ormiston next Friday... A v Bo'ness Athletic on Saturday of international weekend.

Not much happened in the last few weeks position-wise though Thornton thrashing Bo'ness Athletic at their own back yard in midweek was startling. Armadale find them and Edinburgh South immediately behind. Nobody at bottom making traction.

Well I hope the Groundhoppers all enjoyed the first match of their weekend tonight. A cracking match doon the Volley which was not only a great advert for Division 2, but for non league football in Scotland in general. Ormiston gave a great account of themselves, but just couldn't hold onto their lead and Armadale got two late goals to win it 3-2 in the end. Armadale were the better side throughout, but not taking their chances almost cost them and Ormiston made them work for it. While Armadale were better, the gap between the two sides in the table wasn't evident. Really good game.
