There’s your reality check. As good as we have been, we still have a very very long way to go. England cruised that.
Expected more fight, rabbits caught in headlights stuff at times

We allowed them to cruise it

As you say headlights, Ryan Christie only one turned up

I know it’s Pie n Bovril and we’re all meant to pretend Engurland!!! *shudders* are shite and overrated but they’re a level above anyone we’ve played in a long time. A right schooling that tonight.

Can only hope this doesn’t derail the momentum and that we’re able to get qualification sorted.

I will say though, as good as they were, I’m not quite having the ‘ah well, they’re the better side’ stuff - they clearly were and are always going to be better than us, but we were fucking shite tonight and have a terrible account of ourselves.

Dreadful performance from Scotland and a wake up call for several players. It also shows the limos Clarke as a coach. Set up the team wrong, failed to change or adjust formation and substitions made far too late. Plays his favourites as well before giving others a fair crack of the whip.Mctominay isn't a forward despite the goals he scores and was totally wasted tonight. Lone striker totally isolated at all times and so obviously wasn't working.  That Clarke was out maneuvered tactically by Southgate says it all  really.

What does it say? Genuine question, I'm not really sure what you're getting at.

Certainly agree with the substitutions being made too late.

Could be worse.

Defence needed sorted after the Cyprus game where they got through a number of times. Was clear a better side would punish us. Need some strength there.

England have some class players so shouldn't feel too despondent.

Plus, we won the anthems.

God Save the Nonces well and truly booed.

That was a fkn horrible performance absolutely passed off the park in a first half in which the game was well beyond us. (and not by a full strength England team either)

If Spain and France decide to turn up it will be 3 defeats on the bounce before we play Georgia which is hardly ideal.

Tonight was a massive boot in the stones.

It is what it is.  Stevie Clarke has presided over a huge revival in the Scottish team but the hype has recently been going into overdrive.  What happened tonight is exactly what I feared could happen, and as and when we qualify for the Euros everyone should expect not a great deal and they won't be disappointed.

Credit the great run we were on, and if we're to be honest that included muggings of an wasteful Spain and a complacent Norway, but tonight we were second best across the park.  It is what it is.

England are probably ranked top 5 in world football and played this game as a true match. Bellingham is a superstar in waiting but for a spell you can see their psyche crumble, for all their nice movement and passing their defence is pretty shit. Scotland got a wee wake up call tonight which isn't a bad thing.

The only battle tonight is over whether to say it's a Wake Up Call, or a Reality Check.

Overused as these phrases are, they've got truth.  We were poor tonight, but we probably aren't as good as we were starting to think.  The midfield we've been raving about, were nowhere near it tonight when confronted by the real deal.

England have been a level above us and one of the best teams in the world pretty much all my days.

They've had better individual talent but this is as cohesive as they've been in that time. The other major nations are at a low point if we are honest and they've been pushing for a trophy in the past number of tournaments now. They were just a penalty shoot out from winning the last Euros against the waning but still fucking brilliant defensive unit of Chiellino and Bonucci led Italians at the last Euros.

If they're not the best team in the world right now, they are not far off it. Doesn't mean they'll win anything necessarily but equally doesn't mean they can't or shouldn't ever teach us a fucking lesson.

The main disappointment was that we couldn't provide an attacking threat and get the fans onside but we were never, even for a second in that game and that's not a minter by any stretch. We should still be incredibly proud of our journey and improvement over the last 12-18 months.
