Alloa v Stirling

Recommended Posts

I do remember a smashing 4-4 draw at the recs I think the following season. Was looking for some more details of the game online but coming up blank.

All I seem to recall is Kicky Woods scoring a cracking goal right near the endnto either put us ahead or level the game. I remember being behind the goals and going nuts

Gary Gow halfed añ Alloa player on the edge of the box in the last minute as he was about to roll it into an empty net and was inexplicably only yellow carded, I was living in Alloa at the time, as I am now funnily enough 25 years later and it probably contributed to some naughty behaviour outside from the home team ned element in the support, it wouldn't surprise me to see similar on Saturday as at the recent league cup tie, both 'young teams' were goading each other outside at full time and, had there been greater numbers you sense it would have escalated, the younger Alloa fans were escorted in the direction of Tesco after the game by the police but few minutes later they about turned and charged up Clackmannan Road looking for Stirling fans despite the average age being about 14 and, hilariously a group of girls about the same age hanging on behind obviously excited at the prospect of a punch or two being thrown. 🤣

Thinking back on the aforementioned 4-4 midweek game, I think actually Gary Gow may have stayed on the park because the referee awarded a penalty which he subsequently saved, the rules then was no double punishment meaning if penalty awarded for a foul in the box, last man or not it wasn't straight red, unlike outside the box where a straight red card was given because no penalty or replacement goal scoring opportunity could be awarded, am I imagining this or can anyone else remember/confirm this?

I think that was a different game — either 1-1 or 2-2. It was midweek i think. Willie Irvine took the penalty that Gow saved. My memory is fucked these days though so could be wrong.

No argument about the pricing, we're used to hearing that every season, but who on Earth is boycotting the Recs for being shite while happily going along to Ochilview?

Behind the goals at Ochilview is a hundred times better than anywhere at the Recs - It's the one away venue I'm really going to miss this season. Dale Carrick's last gasp winner there last season, and the scenes that followed will live with me for a long, long time.

Of course, none of this means I would ever consider boycotting the Recs because of it, its good to have these derbies back again.

This is the game you're thinking of...

Seems to only be the big away crowds that get to stand behind the goal at the Railway end,  smaller crowds just go in the stand.

Miss the days when you could swap ends at half time but imagine that'd be a nightmare to steward these days

What site did you get that from?

Soccerbase. Excellent site, every result going way back in time, and all line ups and scorers for every game from about 1997 onwards. Word of warning, once you've worked out how to navigate it, prepare to be lost for hours.

Hadn't heard of that website before, pretty cool to go back and see all the old results.

This was the first Alloa - Stirling derby my Uncle took me to. For some reason I had it in my head that we'd scored within the first couple of minutes. Will be my son's first derby on Saturday so hopefully a similar result!

We even kept Martin Cameron on the bench until the last 15 minutes.

Wonder who the trialist was for Stirling, what a game to have to come on in.

Remember the Stirling Observer report suggesting that despite the result Stirling had the better quality players, it was 7-0 not 2-0.
