Molotov
Not only could this be devastating for Iceland, but this may have a massive impact on climate, air quality and travel plans over the next weeks, months and years. I’ve read that they don’t expect the same impact on flying as there was in 2010 but guess we may find out soon. “In 2010 there was a massive eruption at Eyjafjallajökull when over 95,000 flights were cancelled all across Europe during the six-day airspace ban, with later figures suggesting 107,000 flights cancelled during an 8-day period, accounting for 48% of total air traffic and roughly 10 million passengers.” Edited March 17 by Molotov Title updated

No, they did not. f**k them, they knew what they were getting into when they built a country on volcanoes.
badgerthewitness
I wouldn't pay too much attention to some of the more alarmist takes. The 2010 Eyjafjallajokull incident was so disruptive as a volcanic mountain erupted under a massive glacier, water expands to several hundred time its volume when it comes into contact with lava, pulverising the surrounding rock into fine particles & propelling them to high altitudes which could've clogged jet engines. If/when this happens, it's likely to be a fissure eruption, basically the ground splitting apart & lava/gases being released through an open wound (Kenneth!) in the terrain. Obviously bad news for the town of Grindavik but the damage/disruption to infrastructure should be localised.

No doubt religious people will be digging out their REM albums.

I would expect an eruption to be a slightly larger version of this eruption from 2021, a few kilometres from Grindavik. Skip to 3:30 to see how little fucks Icelandic people give. Wouldn't be me.

senorsoupe
I wonder if a volcanic eruption will give football managers excuses for not getting transfers done the way Sam Allardyce blamed the 2010 volcano for not being able to bring Robert Lewandowski to Blackburn
