First Division 24/25

Recommended Posts

As usual the 1st Division is going to be a tough old league. Will be interesting to see how Medda and Lie do coming down from the premier, Traditionally it's always a struggle for teams to go straight back up.
Both will no doubt have a lot of new players coming in and with the buffs also going through major changes in the squad , it does look like the Winton could cause an upset this season especially if they add a few more players to their squad.
How many teams have made it up first time of asking after being relegated from the premier in last five- ten years? Must be a few statos out their who will know . I'd suspect can't be many

Not sure about the last SJFA leagues, but minus the first WOS season which was essentially abandoned due to covid, 10 clubs have been relegated from the Premier League, seven in 21/22 and three in 22/23.  Of these ten, only one (Benburb) has managed to return to the top league.

For the title - Kilwinning Rangers

Promotion - Rutherglen Glencairn & Petershill

Surprise Package - Arthurlie - I think the surprise will be that they end up mid table (I don't know why)

Relegation: St Rochs, Maybole & Blantye Vics

I'd be interested to see how my local team, Vale of Clyde, does. I think they've had back-to-back promotions. I will try to get along to see some games this season.

I expect Vale to challenge for promotion again.

I'd be interested to learn why a few folk seem to be plumping for Thorniewood as contenders before the season starts. Is there something going on there to prompt this ?

I'm guessing those chaps are ITK about something...give the rest of us a clue, then...

Good coaching staff, backed by the chairman, committee and fans and the team is a good mix of youth and experienced players.  Young player to watch out for  Blair McDonald, a few teams are or were in for him but heard he's staying at Thorniewood, but then again, I've said it here and this is probably the death knell for it all 🤐

I’m led to believe that Thorniewood have a (relatively) new backer and they have a decent wee bit of 💰 behind them. Thought they recruited well through last season, especially with the 2 snr boys.

I think they’ve signed well so far this preseason, based on a few names I’ve heard.
