Guests in the Junior Cup

Recommended Posts

Posting in the WoS and EoS sub-forums very inclusive of a national non-league cup :whistle Definitely not trolling at all.

I see Kennie's in the comments saying guests for a year, then have to take out membership to continue. Where does that leave Pollok after guesting last season?

I wonder if the Fixture Secretaries from all the senior leagues have been informed that they'll have to work around this competition?

AFAIK Only the WOS give it priority.

I'm seeing nothing in that tweet it's limited to clubs within the the pyramid. Six days is enough to get P&B FC together right?

Anything to stop Sevco applying? They could use a trophy.

Hopefully nowhere near it!

It could reasonably be argued that any club who has an extended run in the SJC will happily sacrifice success in the WOS Cup, after all it's the least cherished competition open to clubs at present.  Even league performances might suffer due to the inevitable fixture build up at the end of the season.  But that leaves us in the situation where the fixtures man for the WOS league*, who is also the SJFA assistant, is promoting a competition which is potentially, or even likely to be to the detriment of his own league and league cup. A bizarre situation and a clear conflict of interest.

What does the SJFA actually do apart from run a diminished cup competition and some minor leagues in the north of the country? Where is the plan to engage with other leagues and assert the SJC as a national non-league trophy?  Have they even tried?

From cup finals at Hampden hosting 70k+ crowds to scavenging about for members on Twitter is some fall from grace.  If the SJC is here to stay (and the semi final crowds suggest it is) then it needs a proper plan, and an approach to other leagues to regain a sense of legitimacy.

*Actually think Kennie does a great job with the fixtures given the circumstances.

you're not counting the Demolition Cup in that list obviously, are you? Surely not? Probably down to single figures in teams by now.

The No Prize South Challenge Cup is another you've clearly forgotten about.

It's so diminished, clubs are queueing up to get involved. And how snobbish is the rest of that?

Hampden hosting 70k+ crowds

those days are long gone for football in general. Top of the tree all the way to the roots. The fact remains that the SJFA have accepted that and are looking at ways to re-vitalise their cup. Anyone else doing the same?

Other leagues and teams constantly trying to block their efforts doesn't do anyone any favours.

You're missing the point about the Demolition Cup. The last 3x Junior Cup finals have all been won by an existing SFA member.

The point of the Demolition Cup/Cup Winners Shield is to provide clubs that aren't members of the SFA a chance to qualify for the proper Scottish Cup.

The SJFA could forgo the Junior Cup as a qualifying route. Perhaps to transfer it to a Highland Cup Winners Shield that would benefit its membership since a North/Midlands team would more than likely win it.

This would also allow the non-SFA members of the SJFA in the West to boost the Demolition Cup numbers. Since the WoSFL takes 10% off the gate of every game that adds to the league's coffers.

I bet the sponsors of the Demolition Cup who stepped in and helped out are delighted that the people running the WoS League are actively going out their way to devalue the cup

I know why it's there. But I know that the Junior members still value there participation in the Junior Cup over a route to the Scottish Cup.

They’re all just hanging about hoping it’ll finish up and they’ll all get a cut of the legacy cash that was left when 90% of the clubs left!
