There's a halftime show for the final. Shakira will do a 25 minute set.

Get this nonsense so far to f**k. Don't give FIFA any ideas.

Normally I'd agree with you, but it's Shakira so...

I recorded it and thought they'd got the scheduling all wrong when I had to skip through around two hours of previous games. Between that and the 25-minute half-time my recording cut out after 55 minutes.

You didn't miss much. It wasn't, as they say, a classic.

The USA going for the England 2021 approach to organising large football events.

Good luck when FIFA attempt a 25 minute half time pop concert during Serbia vs Croatia in the 2026 World Cup.

This is really on CONMEBOL though, they were the ones who came up with the security "plan" for these events, the USSF wasn't directly involved in the security plans.  In fact, the USA already has a security plan in place for this very stadium at the 2026 World Cup that is WAAAAAYYY better than what CONMEBOL had in place for the Copa final but for whatever reason (probably petty politics) CONMEBOL decided not to use it.

North America knows how to plan a major sporting event and security (when organized by experienced North American organziers) is some of the most stringent and effective in the world.  There are hundreds of events (from NFL to College Football, to motorsports, to MLB) held every year on this continent where north of 50,000 people show up and there are almost never incidents like what we saw on Sunday.

I know I am Canadian and am not supposed to defend the United States, but in this case the criticism of the USSF is not justified.

It seems to be non sporting event security they struggled with in the last week
