So not well meaning at all then seeing as all 3 of the main parties are more concerned with their optics than the rights and wrongs of the issue at hand.

The concept of urging a Ceasefire is 100% well meaning, that's the only point I was making there, I made it quite clear this was all politicking. There is no element of a "hospital pass" that I can see still.

Tabling the initial motion.  They knew neither Labour or the Tories could back it and therefore they could claim the moral high ground by saying they were the only party calling for a ceasefire.  The potential Labour rebellion was a bonus where they could have a second dig at Starmer.

Why can't Labour back it ?

Instead of order order it's chaos chaos

Trying to have a vote on a private vote ie emptying the public gallery and turning the TV cameras off and its walk out central ...nice one Hoyle

A humanitarian ceasefire is just a continuation of the status quo but the SNP should accept that Starmer/Labour outmanoeuvred them on this occasion and accept the watered down motion - this toys out the pram stuff from the SNP allying themselves with the Tories is unedifying.

The only person that I can see who has fallen into "a trap" here is Hoyle. Looks like he was bullied into accepting the Labour amendment only for that to explode in his face. He was most probably running down the clock anyway but this could well see him out sooner than he would have hoped.

They can’t call for an unconditional ceasefire.  If they’re a government in waiting they’ll have to do business with Israel in the future.  Like it or not Israel is an ally and trading partner of the UK and it’s a bad move to openly condemn them and give the impression they don’t care about the hostages or Israel’s security.

The SNP have already said they’re backing the Labour amendment.  No idea if that has changed since the pram emptying began.

Fairy Nuff but the latest indication is that the Labour amendment will be voted on first and no other vote will take place, as I said congrats to Labour but is anyone really fooled by their mealy mouthed amendment it's nothing but an endorsement of the status quo, cosying up to the Tories at Westminster is a step too far for me.

There has been and will be no division vote. Labour claiming it's motion has been carried unanimously is utter bullshit.

How come?

lots of other countries have.

For the reasons I already stated.  In the UK we also have the complication of our relationship with the US to consider.  Again like it or not we still have to do business with them in the future and don’t want to alienate them.  There is an effective Jewish lobby in US politics/society.

Very rarely are these things as simple as people imagine.

Class that we’re all just resigned to a potential future labour government going full “Thatcher apartheid policy”. What a glowing endorsement of our future socialist leaders.
