Dunning1874
Badly need subs here, we're somehow losing control of this purely through a lack of composure. Crying out for Gillespie in midfield.

Zanetti
Fair play to Rhys McCabe btw. Not only did he see Veldman struggle last season after signing loads of wee boys and trying to play "total football" out from the back, but his team actually directly benefitted from it against us, and he then decided that was the route he wanted to go down this season. A bold strategy.

A bold strategy. Every time I watch this team I can’t stop thinking about your Veldman comparison. Can’t remember if Veldman was still in charge for the 2-1 game at Hampden but that was the turning point in our season. We’d won something like 1 in 9 before that after trying to play nice football with wingers and then drew 0-0 at home to Morton in a game where we changed shape and were very stodgy. We went to Hampden the following week and tried to play nice football, looked awful and then went more direct and managed to score a late winner and never really looked back. We’re right back to the bad run of that period but with a weaker squad and no obvious way to change things.

A bold strategy. We had a more experienced squad in league one. Why we’ve gone backwards this season is beyond me. Yes, players might want to leave, but you have enough churn in the summer to have an experienced squad complimented with players like Macdonald who has done well. You’re asking them to do a job they’re just not ready to do. Get this link with Consilium in the bin. He went a couple of weeks before that, but it was the same group of players under an inexperienced, young, Dutch interim manager who hadn't changed much yet!

While that in itself isn't a disaster, his seeming lack of ability to have a plan B is. His "nailed on for a premier league job" days of six months ago are a distant memory

That does sound familiar now you mention it, I felt like it was after Veldman’s spell but knew it was before Davidson came in. The big difference between that Queen’s Park team and Airdrie is that Dom Thomas (even if he wasn’t being used properly) can produce a bit of quality out of nothing in a way our attacking players don’t do as often and Paton is a much better all round striker than Wilson. Worrying times for us.
Dunning1874
Great finish from Ballantyne for the second, making up for the sitter he'd previously missed, and the game was done with that. Nice to be able to relax, despite Mullen's near f**k up that gave them the chance for 2-1. We've been concerned about how toothless we are but holy f**k, Airdrie were terrible. Last season they were great in possession and could play through teams, but they could mix it up and were equally good when they did, while being even better than we were at our best out of possession pressing teams to death. Today they couldn't do anything well.
Colkitto
Thoroughly enjoyed that today. We were miles ahead of Airdrie in almost every department. Wilson was my MotM, he was different level today. What an engine the guy has he was just about everywhere. Ballantine has been a great signing for us and such an upgrade on last season. Scored an absolute rocket! McGinn had some lovely touches too and could actually be an important signing for us. Lemar showed "green shoots" of what he can do. Was unlucky with a volley at the back post which in fairness the keeper got along his line well to make a great stop. Lyall had a good game too but his decision making in his final ball could be better at times All the players put in a shift to be fair and wanted that win. No failures today and totally deserved the win which could have been more than the scoreline suggests. We still need players in the CF area. Get that sorted with a couple of loans and I would start to feel a lot more optimistic of our chances this season
