RWB
2 game ban for Ovechkin. And the guy that put Boston's Savard out for the season didn't even get a penalty let a lone a ban. [Edit : Lots of talk about this with the Boston coverage tonight. Cooke of Penguins was the guy that took out Savard and those teams meet up on Thursday. Could be feisty.] Just tuned in for start of Devils tonight and missed the first period! Daylight saving in US already? Anyway, a matter of seconds into the 2nd and it's 3-1. Here we go. Boston got it to 3-2 with a 6v5 and just missed out making it 3-3. Murder from Lemaire. Why bring in Kovalchuk and still grind out 1 goal wins after being 3 up. Virtual Insanity
I thought the Cooke hit was worse than Ovechkin's, and although it's inconsistent it's better to get 1 right out of 2. I think the fact that Ovechkin only just missed out on an automatic penalty after previous game misconducts this season probably helped them make their decision.

Brierie Bud
Just finished watching the Isles playing the Canucks on ESPN. A fantastic 5-2 victory for us inflicting Vancouver's first home defeat in 2 months. We started well with young defenseman Dylan Reese scoring his 1st NHL goal in only his 7th start with a peach of shot into the top corner. The Canucks gave away a few penalties in the 1st period and a close range powerplay goal from Tavares made it 2-0 Islanders midway through the 1st period. In the 2nd period the Canucks were the better team, with shots being fired in from everywhere. Some good saves from Roloson and great defensive work from Streit and Meyer in particular kept the Canucks at bay. Then it was unbelieveably 3-0 when a superb reverse pass from Tavares found Moulson who beat Luongo from close range to score goal number 26 of the season for him. The Canucks pressure finally resulted in two late goals in the 2nd period with Wellwood and Burrows bringing Vancouver back into the game. However with 8 seconds of the period remaining Tavares crossed for Meyer to score as he fell with his leg which crucially made it 4-2. Raycroft came into the net for Luongo in the 3rd period for the Canucks . The 3rd period was more even with both teams having good chances to score, both goalies making good saves. Raycroft was pulled with just under 3 minutes to go, but seconds later the victory was sealed when Streit found Tavares to score an empty net goal and his 20th of the season. What a great performance by us tonight, we may have been outshot 37 - 20 but that stat is some what misleading as we hit the frame of the goal 4 times. Special mention for John Tavares tonight - a 5 point game from him tonight, top class. Still in the playoff hunt but tough games away against the Ducks and the Kings. Come on you Isles!! Fife Saint
Noticed this wee video of the new Penguins stadiumConsol Energy Center. The big boss man has gone all out to accomodate the countless fat American arses that will be planked in the seats. No expense spared.

RWB
Man we're good tonight. 4-1 Although Pens are a shambles. Can't believe we've hit them for 4 yet again. Almost 5 as Crosby deflects it onto his own post. - - - - - - - - 5-2 final score with empty net goal at end. Usual grind for Devils after the burst in the 2nd. Some achievement though to whitewash the Penguins or for any team to win all six meetings in a season. Fair question on a Devils forum - "When's the last time the Devils, or any team for that matter has chased 3 goalies within a 1 week span? Henry, Thomas, now Fluery" Ach, had to do it. Virtual Insanity
Can't belive the Canucks got hammered at home last night No worries, it's all a ploy. The Canucks have actually lost more games this season to teams currently outside the playoff spots than in, which is pretty remarkable. We're making ourselves look weaker than we are to lull others into a false sense of security. PS Go Flames.

Zanetti
Noticed this wee video of the new Penguins stadiumConsol Energy Center. The big boss man has gone all out to accomodate the countless fat American arses that will be planked in the seats. No expense spared. I'm truly gutted that I've never had the chance to go to the Igloo before it shuts, but the new place is just fantastic. Mellon arena is the oldest left in the league but this is the perfect time for a modern new facility with the way this team has been moving forward in the past couple of years.
Virtual Insanity
Canucks have signed Ryan Kesler to a six year contract, just waiting to see details of the money involved. On the free market with the season he's had he could have got anything up to $6million, so I'd be happy enough with $5million or thereabouts, although generally I'm just delighted to have this season's Selke Trophy winner tied up long term. Now have him, the Sedins, Luongo and Burrows signed for the foreseeable future, good times.
Virtual Insanity
Seems like it is around $5 million per year, so I'm happy enough with that, would have liked to have seen a little less after Kesler was fairly outspoken last summer saying players need to take discounts to win the Cup, although he probably has taken a significant discount, think his Olympic performance forced the Canucks hand a bit on this one. Still very very happy to have him signed up for 6 years.
Brierie Bud
A dissapointing 5-4 loss for the Isles after blowing a 4-2 lead to lose in overtime. Another point on the board with another game tonight against the Kings.
Jute
Looks like Sharks are not even going to wait to the post season before blowing up this year 8-2 defeat to Dallas followed up by losing road trip double to Vancouver and Calgary. Calgary defeat will not be so sore if it helps them take the 8th spot of the Redwings.
