H_B
When I said there was no way this Australian batting line up were getting 250 runs, I would like to clarify that I meant for the Ashes series, not just this innings.
die hard doonhamer
Can we top the 18 that fell on the first day of the 05 series at lords?

pandarilla
England's day now - which wasn't looking very likely an hour ago
wellboy1991
Smith is looking solid but Hughes really needs to settle the ship. This is turning into carnage!! Oz all out for 120 I think!! Jimmy Anderson is excellant to watch, gives runs but takes wickets and swings the ball a peach. Good entertainment.
wellboy1991
What a shot from Smith, playing this like a one dayer! Good stuff!
The_Kincardine
I've been out so only just looked at the scorecard and don't understand cricket enough to assess its significance. England's score of 215 doesn't seem great nor does Australia's of 75-4. So whose day was it?

On that wicket, England should have been looking to score 350-370, so their score was well short, but Australia only have 6 wickets in hand and are still a long way short. That probably doesn't clear much up, sorry.
Fuctifano
might have to factor in Broad's injury too, England still ahead at this point as you'd fancy Australia will need a first innings lead with them having to bat last on this pitch. Next 2 days should be a lot easier for batting with sunshine forecast and if England are a bowler short and Finn / Anderson have to put in the overs in the sun it could hinder them. Or they could roll Australia for 150 tomorrow morning, spend 2 days scoring thousands and a well rested bowling attack returns to polish them off on days 4 and 5. I'd be backing England from here but it's not a foregone conclusion.

I did scroll through the BBC match report and saw this: So what does it all mean? Despite being skittled for only 215, events late on day one have given England the upper hand. There are, however, some flies in the ointment. If the sun shines on Thursday, Trent Bridge is likely to be good for batting. Also, England have so far had to do without the bowling of Stuart Broad, off the field with a shoulder injury. The hosts will not want to be operating on a two-man pace attack on day two. Is that a fair summary?

It could still go either way.
utdtillidie
Went for Aussie's to win 2-1 @ 15/1 and Trott top series scorer @ 8/1. Was going to go for Siddle top wicket taker but talked myself out of it.

booitsme7
What a start to the Ashes series and the 2nd day is already a big day in this test. James Anderson is in 3rd place on England test wickets with 309 just 16 behind Bob Willis in 2nd place on 325. I think Anderson has a great chance on being in 2nd place by the end of this series.

H_B
This is the worst Australian batting line up, perhaps ever. Certainly for the past 40 years. What's more baffling is that they've picked an ancient club cricketer in Chris Rogers, whilst Simon Katich is plundering runs in English county cricket. The bowling is half decent on English wickets - no spin threat but some better than average quicks. But that will be of no value when your top 6 can't muster 100 runs between them.
utdtillidie
Boom and boom. 113-6. Do well to get to England's first innings total. Game on!
