TheLip69
If the Ashes is half as good as this ODI series, we are in for a treat. Great stuff.
booitsme7
What an end to a brilliant ODI series. Jonny Bairstow came into the team today and performed well but he really should have been caught by Mitchell Santner.
die hard doonhamer
When was the last time England had 3 wicket keepers that could hold their place in the side as a batsman? Buttler, Bairstow and Billings, all very good.
Fuctifano
Was there yesterday, cracking game, made getting pished on for 2 hours worth it. England fans were taking a leaf out the Celtic book with the complaints about the revised target- which is based on a computer program rather than some guy picking a number- but as the evidence showed, it's much easier to go at 8 an over for 25 overs than 6 an over for 50. I do think England got stiffed a bit with the D/L in the 2nd game but that was based on them being 7 down. Kiwis still choked when it comes down to it, I think England might still have won if Santner had held that catch but it would have been tighter. NZ really miss Boult, he's quietly become one of he top 5 bowlers in the world.

There was a good piece on the D/L method on "More or less" the other day. They talked to the Maths Professor who looks after it and he said it is regularly updated to take account of changes in the game which would support with English suggestions that the system will need changed again in the future but he also pointed out that there's an availability bias at work here. We remember more of the modern risk taking innings that worked and delivered 350+ and less of the modern risk taking innings that didn't come off. Average scores have gone up but variability has gone up even more dramatically Edited June 21, 2015 by topcat(The most tip top)
Savage Henry
Yeah. I think England got shafted but for the most part, the D/L system seems to set reasonable targets. England's target the other day, for example, seemed in the generous side of fair.

AberdeenBud
People are quick to moan about D/L but slow to come up with a credible alternative. Edited June 21, 2015 by AberdeenBud
topcat(The most tip top)
And as fuctifano points out the system is at least objective If the stick has a shitty end then it's as likely to be given to your opponents as you In a sport where coin tosses are often described as "Crucial" it's hard to moan about the D/L method
die hard doonhamer
Leaving the subject of international cricket, I played cricket for the first time in about 6 years today, at Perth Doo'cot's first social sixes tournament. Great fun, and makes me miss playing properly. Turning up and winning the thing helps as well
booitsme7
England win the T20 match by 56 runs. England got 191-7 before bowling New Zealand out for 135 in 16.2 overs
Antiochas III
5 wickets for 4 runs. Absolute mental finish
Savage Henry
5 wickets for 4 runs. Absolute mental finish What the heck has got into England? Hopefully they take the same attitude into the Ashes, and snack Johnson and Starc for eight an over.
Antiochas III
I think they (England) need be careful as I believe the ODI team looks good, the Ashes are not decided by ODIs. People forget they drew 1-1 with New Zealand in the Test Series. Going to be a cracker though
Bobby Skidmarks
There is certainly a divide, squad wise and style between the red ball and white ball teams. However, beating the World Cup finalists will surely have a positive effect on the likes of Root, Buttler, Stokes and Wood going into the Ashes.
Antiochas III
Yeah agree. I think the bigger test will be the winter. After that we will see where England as a ODI team really are with Pakistan and the conditions there. Savage Henry
I happen to think they've missed a trick by not getting Jason Gilkespie on board - you'd have to think he'll be the next Australia coach now - but if they play as aggressively in the future, it must surely impact on the test side. That said, how many of the one day team are likely to be in the first squad? And, having said that as well, how many will be in the second?
Eednud
Australia in their first warm-up game are 0/108 at lunch v Kent. Chris Rogers on 53 and Shaun Marsh 45. No doubt they'll face a stronger bowling attack as the tour progresses.
Antiochas III
See there will be no changes to the proposed set-up of the World Cup in 2019 and looks like a 10-team World Cup set to stay. Teams will be Hosts (England) plus the top 7 ODI teams and 2 Qualifiers. As it stands the following nations would battle it out for two spots: West Indies or Pakistan Ireland Zimbabwe Afghanistan Plus the top 4 teams from Scotland UAE Hong Kong Papua New Guinea Netherlands Namibia Kenya Nepal ICC making the SPFL bosses look like geniuses
jmothecat
219 not out for Bairstow today as he shared a record breaking stand with Bresnan in the county match against Durham. He's making himself difficult to ignore.
