Adam
Good comeback from the hosts after a fairly terrible morning session. Agree completely about getting shot of Bell.
booitsme7
Ballance has just hit his fifty. This partnership is going really well.
kerrdavidson95
Root is by far England's classiest player. I agree with the sentiments regarding Bell. Put Root at 4, Stokes 5, Bairstow 6, Buttler 7.
booitsme7
190-3 at Tea The last session of the day will decide which side have the upper hand after the opening days play.
die hard doonhamer
Ballance went for 61 (lbw). Root past 100
DeeTillEhDeh
Please hit Warner out the ground. Can't stand the fekker.
Lex
Terrible, lazy dismissal by Butler. Out for 27, England 343-7. An over or 2 left in the day and would say it's just been Australia's day with that last wicket. Edited July 8, 2015 by Lex

jmothecat
Good day for England. Weathered the early storm and Root and Ballance took their opportunity at the right time. Australia will be disappointed not to have punished England after a good start but won't be too displeased with the day as a whole. England will definitely be the happier side though. Good opening day to the series.
Lex
It's always hard to say who's infront after the first innings. That pitch is slow though, I think a score of 400 would be par at best. If Aus can knock over the tail early tomorrow and not lose any wickets before lunch they will be in a commanding position.
Antiochas III
I bet Haddin apologised a few times last night. Agree with Lex, this morning's session will likely decided who's in a commanding position Edited July 9, 2015 by Antiochas III

Fuctifano
Away from the Ashes, the qualifiers for the 2016 T20 World Cup are underway with 6 Associate nations looking to joing the usual suspects in India next year. Scotland are co-hosts with Ireland and are absolutely molesting the UAE in our first game, currently 94/0 off 7.2 overs chasing 110. 7 teams in each group, top 1 goes through automatically, 2-4 from each group go into play offs for the remaining 4 spots.

Scotland win by 9 wickets with exactly half the overs remaining. Big win like that could be handy if it goes to net run rate.
booitsme7
Total Today is 5 runs short of what England got in 2009 test at Cardiff which Monty & Jimmy saved the day to get a draw. Interesting to see how well Australia will bat today
booitsme7
England recently got the wicket of Warner which Cook caught in the slips. Cook later got hit in the crown jewels which Joe Root found hilarious.
