Grigg, Hughes, Price and Bradbury all invited to train with the squad too

Bit early for grigg n price I'd think but pleased enough for the other 2. Shame we don't still have A internationals. We probably finally have enough decent players to accommodate this.

we still do play A internationals every year (although not as many as we used to), we have turned England over the last few years

Thought it had been completely binned in favour of u20s. Actually that might be Welsh. Would like to see a return of the full 6n A tourney.

Last A fixture was in 2014, wasn't any last year due to RWC affecting the calendar and none announced so far for next year. Usually the weekend or 2 before the 6N starts. Only seems to be us, England and Ireland who have ran A teams in recent years. From around 2007 to 2011 we played 3 A games during the season (once during Autumn Internationals and 2 in 6N period), then usually a tournament in the summer too, but with the Italians joining the Pro12 we don't really have the dates in the calendar any more.

6NA has been binned as not everyone runs a team anymore, think it is only us, England and Ireland that still had a team, but our last games were in 2014. The SRU have taken all reference to the A fixtures & results off their website so looks like we aren't running one anymore.

Think that's a shame. We have a decent amount of players coming through from u20 who could probably benefit from a transition level prior to full squad....guys like Bradbury Kinghorn hastings deans Fagerson horne etc

Earls banned for 2 weeks because of a horror tip tackle / Brown throwing himself neck first into the ground (delete depending how Irish you are)

I agree, but it only serves to show what a scandalous decision it was to only show Toomua a yellow the other week.

It also was there 18th test win in a row given them the record out right for a tier 1 nation. They are 6 short of the all time record witch stands at 24 tests and is held by Cyprus. It was also a record for the Aussies as it was the 1st time they have lost more than one 3 test series In a year( the mid year series v England and the Beldisloe cup)

Cyprus?

Cyprus' record was from when they joined World Rugby (or the IRB as it was) so started in the lowest level and worked their way up. They had a decent team with some ex pats compared to the countries they were playing against. Its not like football were world cup qualifying has groups of teams from each pot, its very much set up so the best teams dont have to play any minnows, ever. Teams tend not to play anyone with more than 10 places between them in the rankings. Think Scotland are about 10th and would never play anyone outside the top 20 in the world, which is one of the reason that other countries never get any better. That and if they have any decent players they move to play in a top league and dont get / want to be released to play internationals.

It's a tricky one in terms of development but too big a mismatch can be really dangerous. Might have been a 1999 rwc match when one of the ivory Coast players ended up paralysed. The physical difference between amateur and full time pros is enormous. I'd like to see the current 6n bring in Romania and Georgia perhaps as two leagues of 4 playing home n away. Could even look at a league below that with promotion n relegation. The sh could integrate Fiji Samoa n tonga. At moment the 7s circuit seems to be more proactive in developing small rugby nations.

Toony is taking the Glasgow fwds n defence coaches with him when he takes over at murrayfield. Bad news is humphreys and the other guy are going to Glasgow. Surely Dave rennie should be picking his own coaching team. Humphreys has been really poor as a fwds coach. This reeks of soundbite Johnsons interference.

True that huge mismatches don't help anyone, but we already have a 6 nations b, and nobody will give them a game to see how big a gap is. Georgia have been excellent for about 10 years and it's only now they are getting games against tier one sides.

You look at the challenge cup and there are only 2 qualifiers from rest of the European leagues, this year Einsey and Timisoara. Now there is a 3rd European competition and the top 2 in that play off against Einsey and Timisoara for next years spot, however they have just said that if Einsey get into the quarters they automatically get back in and the two best teams play off for the right to play Timisoara. No mention of maybe the worst English or French team missing out

Agree with all that. Would like to see champions cup extended to allow 2 teams per group qualify for knockout stages and then allow more clubs from other nations into challenge cup.
