GordonS
2 hours ago, Zetterlund said: Yup, this has always been the case, and our leaders know this will happen as a result of their misadventures abroad. They just need to keep the numbers to an acceptable level and spin it as them hating us for our freedoms, not for us blowing up 4 generations of their family or levelling their villages. It hasn't always been the case. Until the invasion of Iraq the only Middle East/ North Africa/ Islamist-related terror attacks in the UK were the Lockerbie bombing (which was supposed to happen over the Atlantic), two car bombs set off outside Israeli/ Jewish targets by a Palestinian group in 1994 and a guy who blew himself up during preparations for an attempted assassination on Salman Rushdie in 1989. There was also a foiled attack soon after 9/11. That's very different from what came after the invasion of Iraq, which MI5 warned Blair and his government would happen. I wonder what warnings Starmer is getting now.

Theyellowbox
Israel now killed the head of Hamas in Gaza. You'd assume that would provoke some kind of response from Iran, but I'm not sure they will. The actions of Israel over the past few weeks in Lebanon and beyond and Irans powder puff response make Iran look pretty weak and in danger of making its proxys come to the conclusion that Iran cannot and will not help them when needed. I think Israel feel emboldened and the hardliners in government might just think that to keep going might force a regime change in Iran. It won't and it will just cause more unnecessary bloodshed, but they might think they are up for war crimes anyway, so what's a few more.
