  1. Are any of you fine P&Bers qualified in the murky world of gas combi boiler servicing?

I've had an engineer over today for the annual safety check and it's failed. The boiler is an isar HE24 and is 7-years old. Apparently it requires a replacement gas valve and injector. The price for supply and installation is £330. £250 for parts and £80 for fitting.

    Does this sound reasonable?

  2. It's a great piece of business to get McGinn back on a permanent move. Hopefully he'll build on his form for last season and finally give us a sold right-back. Something we've not had in a while.

    I'd have us lining up;

    Grindlay

    McGinn Graham AN Other Smith

    Murray

    Gilhaney Turner Agnew McDougall

    AN Other

If Murray is looking for a good, solid, experienced pro to shore up our midfield and protect the back line he doesn't have far to look.

We're short of another goalkeeper, centre-half and striker. I'd also say a right midfielder would be a prudent move if budget allowed.

  3. Delighted Agnew has signed up.

With regards to Lister, my understanding was that he was looking to drop down a division as he found the extra demands of playing in the first a bit difficult alongside his full-time job. Disappointed to see him go but wish him the best. He was a key player in reviving our season after Murray arrived.

  4. McNiff would offer some versatility as a squad player, but not much else. He's young though, and may improve after his recent long spell and regular football.

I feared the worst when I read on twitter that six players had left. In truth, I'm fairly satisfied that Murray has identified the payers who would be surplus to requirements and let them leave, freeing up funds for new additions. I'd like a few of our key payers to sign up in the coming days now, Turner, Fleming and Lithgow would be a good start.

  5. I'm assuming you mean this season?

No. Although I'll concede he had a positive impact on our promotion campaign.

I'm not a fan of any player unwilling to track back and tackle though, especially wide players as it often leads to your full backs being left exposed. as often happened when Lamont played.

A player I was never overly convinced with.

  6. *Reece Pearson

    *Ryan Metcalfe

    *James Creaney

    *Mark Lamont

Can't say I'm surprised at any of those tbh. Never a fan of Lamont and although I feel the criticism of Creaney has been harsh at times I do agree he was out of his depth.

Onwards and upwards. I wish them all the best.

  7. I think it's almost certain that Lster will leave in the summer. One long running rumour is that Raith are interested. Another is that he would prefer to drop down a division as he finds the level of commitment required to do fitness work out with his club hours too much alongside his full-time job. Not sure what to make of either but if he was to go it'd be with the best wishes of every fan I'm sure.

If I was a betting man...which I am...I'd have money on White, Creaney, Gilhaney, McNiff, Nicoll, Turner, Ronald, Lamont, Forsyth and Johnston all leaving in the summer. Some as I feel they're out their depth at this level, some a gut feeling and another who I feel may be poached by a 'bigger' club.

  8. I'm all over Ragadin De Beauchene today in the National.

This horse really appeals in terms of value. Fancied him when i first saw the racecard and form guide and i've been looking at ways to knock him but it’s difficult to do so. His win in January at Warwick was excellent and he looked like a good stayer that day. Pulled up in his last race but im confident that was the exception rather than the rule for this horse. It at least preserves his decent handicap mark and I think the 20/1 that is still available is good value.

    £10 ew at 20/1

  9. The part-time/full-time debate is always an intereting one. If you're in full-time employement and playing part-time football, would you be willing to give up your FT job (given the current climate) for a full-time football contract over say 2-years? I wouldn't. The financial security offered if your lucky enough to have good career prospects is far better than a temporary football contract.

That said, if Man City offered me £40k a week I'd need to consider it ;)

  10. Praise that's well deserved. Puts in a power of work every game. Maybe not the most elegant of players but decent pace and took his goals ever so well on Tuesday. Actually surprised he didn't score more this year.

He certainly scored a lot in the juniors, but then we've played him more in midfield. Have to say I think both him and Turner have been great signings. Would be delighted if we could get both signed up for next season.

  11. None of the players out on loan are available for recall. Think we ll see murray before one of the young boys in the first 11.

How much game time has Murray had? It would be great to have him in, but only when he is fully match fit and hopefully not because our limited squad numbers have forced his hand.

  12. 2/16 Raith (A) 10:00 AM ET Sco 1

    2/23 Falkirk (H) 10:00 AM ET Sco 1

    3/2 Cowdenbeath(H) 10:00 AM ET Sco 1

I'd bite your hand off for 6 points from those games, or any set of three to be honest. Clearly the bigger games for us will be Cowdenbeath at home. A win there would be massive for our chances of staying up.

Realistically though I'd settle for four as long as it includes beating the Cowden. The next few games will be a struggle if the injuries and suspensions take hold.

  13. If he starts as well as Smith has then he'll do just fine.

It's good to see that Murray has not only identified thse players who are maybe not quite good enough for this level, but also identified replacement(s). Our full-back positins have been a problem for us since the day Craigy Brittain left. Murray has came in and his first two players are one left and one right-back.

    In Murray we trust.

  14. Lamont was worse than a wasted jersey during the first half of our cup replay against Hamilton. Forty-five minutes and not a tackle attempted. Id have booted him out of Dumbarton there and then.

We need players who are up for a fight if we're to avoid relegation and Lamont won't give us that. Far too lightweight and only interested when the ball is at his feet.

  15. I'm really happy that we have a manager that's willing to look at all these type of aspects, but here comes the but.

Things like sports scientists, IMO, are for times when your team is 90-95% to perfection of performance, you bring in scientists/nutritionists/whatever to maximise the performance within that last 5-10%, wring every last ounce out.

Where we are just now, we are nowhere near that 90%, and what is needed to get us there is hard work on basic fitness levels, tactics and organisation, which is what Murray and Jack are there for.

The analogy I can think of is either a swimmer or cyclist who shaves their body hair, so that it makes them 0.1 second faster over the course, that 0.1 second might be the difference between success and failure. However, if our team was a cyclist or a swimmer, they currently have a puncture or are too fat to get into their swimming costume. There are bigger priorities and gains to be made than spending funds on a consultant sports scientist.

Again, as I said, just my opinion.

An opinion I agree with 100%.

We certainly fall short of other teams in terms of sharpness, which may improve with time as we adjust to playing at this level. However with the exception of Airdrie, Cowdenbeath and Hamilton we are losing because other teams simply have better players. I'm not sure if a sports scientist can bridge the gab in ability.

At least Murray has his own ideas and is willing to give these things a try. Have to give him respect for that.
