So a striker on loan then ? Don't think we will get Hamilton but Matej is a handy player don’t get the lack of enthusiasm for him tbh

I think it might be a case of  Murray is just being careful with his budget. He needs to rebuild the defence for a start, then we need to find the elusive striker everyone is after. He's got to take into account Vaughan and Lang to an extent are gambles and there is the loan market to utilise as well.

Not necessarily a loan I believe but would make sense.

I think PCK hits the nail on the head, it's more about funds than anything else. No lack of enthusiasm for Pop's as I'd love to see him with us as part of the strike force for next season, but if it ends up being one striker in and only one, then I just don't think he would be the best bet.

  2. Euan Murray? Oh great I can’t wait to see him in a Rovers shirt again, doing his backwards quickstep while the opponent picks his spot. I’d rather he pitched up at at Hamilton than Hartypool.

Poplatnik would be nice to have but we have a few luxury players already. Ian Murray has 3 striking targets but I was told it’ll likely be late in the window before he reckons he’ll land one…..if at all.

At present we only have LV who can operate as a main striker, Easton, Gullan and probably Ross or Zanatta could play the second striker role but we need a No9. If Jack Hamilton was in the equation would we still prefer Popps?

    What's up with Matthews?

Rumoured to have been for an Operation. The procedure should have been done at seasons end but wasn't arranged correctly due to holiday being booked. I suppose this is the kind of f**k up that happens when the manager is leaving and there's nobody in place to take up the slack.

  4. Murray a wee bit contradictory in his FFP interview, initially cites a lack of goals then mentions losing goals at the other end. Both are true but it’s the latter that’s was the greater issue imo.

Bene’s time was up and good as he was both he and Rovers needed a change. Lang is a good player but as said we won’t be seeing him for a while (same with LV and RM). McKay  I would have kept, a decent ball player but for his size he was just not physical enough and didn’t dominate opponents, this was a factor that apparently annoyed the coaches. Berra I have no qualms about, his injury last season was mainly down to his coming together with Bene in the ICT farce. Dick (and Tumilty) though good going forward were not so hot defensively and partly responsible for that awful goals against tally.

Broadfoot? Experienced yes but another old man and his actions towards rovers player and fans in the 3-2 game render him unforgivable, f**k him! Euan Murray? Decent in the air but almost completely useless with attackers running at him, caught out time and again with Rovers, Pars and Killie.

Hopefully the manager has something up his sleeve, other than his arm!

  5. I got the feeling the club grew cool towards Frankie and weren't too fussed if he went. I heard wee bit of an attitude and between injuries and his new found commitment to Zambia there was definitely a change in the air.

Re, favourite players, Murray McDemott is right up there for me too as he was part of the 1st Rovers team I watched H&A. McDermott, Brown/Houston, Candlish/McDonnagh, McFarlane, Taylor, Thomson, Urquhart, Hunter, Petty, Hunter, Wallace (Mk II), Harrow, Duncan.  Paquito or Hetherston may be the best of the ones I can remember as I've little recall of greats like Malky Robertson and Joe Baker as I was very young when I was at the occaisional game in the early-mid 70's.

  6. I learned a few things in the last week, 2 Rovers players have been for Op' in the last week and won't be ready for 3-4 weeks. I was told the name of a rightback we'd  been sort of linked with before is now a done deal this time round. I reckon he will be the next signing. Apparently the manager fancies a few forwards but doesn't think any of them will be allowed to move until things get underway.

Our best midfield was Hendry, Spencer and Matthews, now we have Stanton, Spencer, Matthews and Brown, I don't think Easton will be employed as a CM I reckon he play more of a forward role. Brown can also play a more defensive role if required apparently.

Mind you I could be getting duff information, as I was also told although Spencer was as good as signed it wouldn't be completed until Monday as he wasn't home from Holiday until Saturday, and boom he signed on Friday.

It's all just a waiting game.

  7. Bene Was a good servant if an occasional hothead and liability, lost a good bit of pace since he first arrived with Toshney (a great pairing). Was apparently increasingly difficult to deal with in recent times regarding new contracts.
For me his time was up and we need newer options, there are other players I would push the boat out for before Bene. Not a popular suggestion with some but I’d have kept big Dave McKay.

I know he’s the only one to leave so far but I hope we don’t lose too many established Championship players and replace them with ok but largely untried L1 guys. No more Lewis Milne types hopefully.

Maybe they know more than we do.

I doubt it, I'm not convinced they know the seasons ended and McGlynns gone yet?

Really not sure who you think we could get instead bud tbh

    Ok,

As I see it the progress and upward momentum of the club in the past 3 seasons would hopefully  suggest a continuation of that progress no? ie a better manager coming than we already had.

As I see it none of the names mentioned (except for Jack Ross) is an upgrade on what we had in the previous manager, ergo what was the point in shuffling him out the door?

Hopefully in 6 months time I'm on here with a big spoon eating humble pie, but in the mean time I feel we have leaped without looking or to put it another way thrown out the baby with the bathwater.

  10. Murray, Ellis, Berra, Thomson, Fox Mickey Mouse?  Ambivalence has kicked in and I'm realising I just feel numb, as far as I can see there's not a name out there that would make me rush to the ground and buy a season ticket.

The past season was more than just a damp squib and I'm getting past caring, I feel a disconnect from the club that I haven't felt since those fun days of Anelka and McGowan.

I should be upbeat about the future and desperate to see the right man come in and take the club forward. Unfortunately the events of the last year just seem to see us lumbering from a misjudgment to error, incompetence and eventually to farce, where is there any evidence would justify some optimism that the trend is about to be broken?

I'm not sure that constitutes evidence of talent tbf. Ferguson is a complete diddy.

In general I tend to agree, the point was merely that he (KT) had the same finances as his predecessor but made a far better fist of it. Granted that means they still may both be pish but he only had to be slightly less pish to succeed.

The word seems to be that he's a decent coach who's teams play attractive football but even so he's still largely untested (budget wise). Then there's the other issue of his rumoured personality.

  12. My tuppenceworth.

A Rangers supporting friend has connections at Kelty and gave me his views/insights

    Pro's for Thomson

Well thought of at Ibrox, so much so he's seen as a potential future boss. Did what Ferguson couldn't have so there's some talent there. Obviously has something as a coach.

    Cons,

Kelty rumoured to be uncomfortable with him and won't be unhappy if he goes.

Word is a decent coach but a bit of a balloon.

    On McGynn.

Clearly forced out to make it easy for the board (Sim), was neither rated nor liked by JS.

McGlynn supposedly identified 3 players in January that he thought would do a job, Goodwillie, Lafferty & Griffiths. At the end of the day the board chose DG, they had the final say in the matter not the manager.

  13. What exactly has McPake accomplished at Dundee that makes him a candidate? The main difference between McGlynns Rovers and McPake Dundee was ultimately 2 awful refereeing decisions against Rovers and two passes of quality from fat Charlie. OK so he managed to guide Dee past a shit Killie team but can anyone say that over the course of last season or most of this that he looks like a tactical genius?

What's the betting he gets the gig?

Ian Murray - Depending on play offs

Stewart Petrie - same as above (I couldn’t care less about the Pars connection, just want the best man for the job)

Kevin Thomson - Cut his teeth in Rangers youth coaching and done what he has needed to with Kelty and looks to be ambitious.

Any of those 3 I’d be happy with.

Knowing our luck we’ll get Davo with Bene as his assistant… (jokes)

    I'll pass on all 3.

Murray was bang average at Dumbarton and complete dogs hit at St Mirren without Jack Ross, ok he might have improved some but I'm not fully convinced.

Stewart Petrie I just cant see coming, if he's wanted a FT job he'd have been in (and probably out of ) one already. Forbye he's totally unproven above L1 which despite a few attempts he hasn't got out of past the play-offs.

Kevin Thomson might still be well thought of by Rangers but he's very much untested, I mean come on Claude Anelka could have managed a Kelty side with that much financial muscle behind it to the title. There also the fact that he is rumoured to be an absolute walloper!

Other in the mix I've heard.

    Lennon - No!

    McPake - f**k no!

    McKinnon - Never again!

    Glass - Really?  No!!!

    Hartley -  Nope!

Holt, Hopkin, McPhearson, Darran Young, Naismith Jesus the list of absolute shite is endless!

Ross? - I wish! (he's probably still pissing himself laughing at us from last time!)

    Wright? - Jury is oot!

Laurie Ellis and Berra?    - By no means ideal but better than some of the above.

    Doug Imrie? - well....

Unless there's something truly amazing comes out of left field I think we're fucked!
