Early days but so far it's looking like the bottom side (cough...strathy) won't have anything to worry about, with none of the 3 qualifying tier 6 sides looking like contending for their Championships.

Golspie have played one game and won it* - seems a bit early to be ruling them out, surely?

Wait until they've dropped some points before declaring them out of the running, at least!

*Yeah, I know who it was against...

How many “serious” leagues in Europe start off knowing only two teams can win it & two will finish so far ahead.

I agree with your general point and it's bizarre to see the lack of critical thinking around the financial gulf between the top clubs, however, it's not a uniquely Scottish problem (anymore).

You could argue France and Germany are even more lopsided than here, and that's two of the five 'big leagues'. Depressingly, it's almost rarer to have an open title race.

That certainly doesn't make it okay, mind you!

I have a bit of a gait while running so assuming ill need some support shoes? and have decided on either Brooks Adrenaline gts or Glycerin gts  there was also a hoka Ahari's but leaning more towards the Brooks

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as it seems like a minefield of choices! id like to think i will stick to the running as I am enjoying it and can feel the difference in the few weeks i've been doing it so far

I reckon you're on the right path already. I didn't like the Hokas, but everyone's different. You'll be safe with either of the other two.

On the parkrun thing, I've never really come across anything similar. After a run there'll often be a bit of chat about how I pushed someone else to finish strong, or vice versa... I've urged on a few young guys to beat the old guy (me) over the line... I've generally found it really supportive and positive.

Hopefully the one numpty doesn't put you off returning - sounds like an ill-judged/timed comment rather than a malicious one.

Pacing at about 10 min miles the now but the plan is about to tip over half marathon distance weekly. Any advice about preparation for this?

What sort of distance are you covering now, and how many times a week are you (is your brother) running? What do those runs look like?

With it being his first, it's tricky to get the balance of slowly increasing the mileage with the temptation to run too fast every session and overtrain.

General rule is no more than 10% per week increase in mileage with every 4th week being fewer miles to aid recovery. Make sure long run is slow. If it's not easy to talk to your brother, you're going too fast!

Apologies if that's too basic - wasn't sure where to pitch it!

On holiday in the 'gorms next week and apparently there's a new hardest parkrun in Scotland at Faskally. May have to investigate.

I can confirm it's a devious bugger of a run. A great downhill finish though.

I'd imagine so.  I've always fancied going to Finland but the flights from Edinburgh to Helsinki are pretty extortionate.

I ended up going from Manchester when I went over (I'm also based in Edinburgh), but I just checked and realised that was in 2014 so hardly relevant.

Going to Tallinn & getting the ferry across is always an option, too. Another great city.

Did the Monikie 10k last Sunday and for the first time ever while running decked it 🤣 running through a wooded part of the course. Apart from it being a bit embarrassing lost about 75 seconds sorting myself out from it.

Ouch! Think the only time I've ended up on my arse was trying to dodge round someone coming out of a shop at night and didn't notice the raised curb...hadn't lifted my foot high enough. Pretty unpleasant!

Speaking of falling, this thread's down on the third page. No Edinburgh stories to tell?

I've just got over Covid a week or so ago and just can't get the air into my lungs at all. Legs are like lead. Still got the speed but the stamina has taken a pounding just in time for a half marathon next weekend. That's going to be fun.

Don't think many clubs get 4 out of 4 in any of the groups do they? Can't be arsed going back but seem to remember that if it does happen it must be rare?

If you put the idea in someone's head, they'll do the work for you. Somewhere between 2 and 4 clubs do it every season:

21/22: Hearts, Dundee Utd, Dundee & St Mirren

    20/21: Hearts, Hibs, Dunfermline, Livingston

    19/20: Ross County & Motherwell

    18/19: Dunfermline & Ayr

    17/18: Falkirk, Ayr & Motherwell

    16/17: Alloa, Partick & Rangers

  9. I was at that dirt game played in France currently yesterday, and it's not that bad!

Had day tickets for Chatrier. Was a shame (but not a surprise) the stadium was mostly empty for the two women's matches, but good to see Leyla Fernandez and Coco Gauff in person.  Both very impressive.

The stadium obviously filled out for the Nadal - Auger-Aliassime match which was excellent fun. A few very partisan folk cheering for the Canadian made it more entertaining.

Also got to see some doubles before it all got going on the main courts. A great day all round.

    Anyone doing Edinburgh marathon?

    The Edinburgh course depresses me.

    Good luck!

(In all fairness, it is a fast course but it's not the most exciting.)

Next race for me's the Simmer Dim Half Marathon in Shetland next month.

Any guarantees that the tickets will arrive by Friday ? Being a postie myself, wouldn't trust them ! Will give it a go anyway.

I ordered on the Tuesday before the Fraserburgh game and had the ticket by Thursday by recorded delivery. Should be no bother.

Breath of fresh air answer at last.yes the colts are not holding any club back.its the promotion bottle neck into the spfl thats doing it.

Except that's not at all what craigkillie said.

The only bottleneck of relevance here (and it's scarcely relevant to this thread either, come to think of it) is the one between tiers 5 and 6.

McGachie that scored the first goal? Right hand side in the photo. Pah! Bobby Mann was fatter than that in his prime.

That's the boy. Maybe a big harsh but he's still noticeably a size up from his teammates!

  14. Bonnyrigg worth the win and the two goal margin didn't flatter them.

Fraserburgh more focused in keeping the tie interesting for next week, or maybe that's all they could do. Had a header cleared off the line at 2-1 which would have made things tasty, though.
