So in reality the clubs don't want to play more games, regardless of how many are in the league.  If there were 12 clubs they'd only want to play 11.

    It's a farce.

If the clubs who wanted to play more games took part then they'd be able to vote on it to influence that.

Hes scored 6 goals in the league, do you think he's the highest scoring midfielder?

For reference the awards are decided as such.

The ranking for each category is determined through a weighted calculation elaborated by Ernst & Young, based on statistical reporting by Stats Perform and Opta Sports and supported by data tracking provided by Netco Sports.[1]

The previous winner in the last couple of seasons have been.

22-23 Nicolo Barella who scored 6 goals.

21-22 Marcelo Brozovic a defensive midfielder who scored 2 goals.

20-21 Nicole Barella again, 3 goals

Hes a young scot thriving abroad, so let's build him up rather than try and bring him down.

    This isn't the same award.

I'm shocked anyone thinks any team in the Scottish Championship is anything other than garbage. There's virtually no quality on offer at all.

Anyhow, I turned on Barnsley v Bolton which was miles better.

You have no clue about football if you think that was a great game. The best player was a guy who can't even make the grade at Hibs, who are a solid bottom 6 Premier side.

So instead you watched a team who noted Scottish football luminaries Nicky Cadden and Luca Connell both start for?

  4. And the fact that it was a really good defensive performance proves the original point which started this discussion, specifically that our missing defenders and goalkeepers (and the change of shape which this led to) for the home game had a big impact on our performance.

Only if their bronze license had been approved in full before March 31st.

The SFA statement noted that Highland and Lowland clubs had an accelerated audit process to give them a chance to be ready before the play-offs. It was only when they still failed to meet Bronze at that stage that the play-off was cancelled. If it was a case of March 31st being the cut-off, then the SFA would have been able to make their statement as soon as Buckie won the league.

With Buckie they were automatically out of the play offs when they didn't apply to the SPFL before March 31st, it wasn't just about licensing. Looks like communication between the SFA and SPFL was insufficient as it was clear that those talks were pointless in regards to the play offs, that boat had already sailed. For City they make perfect sense with the July 1st deadline.

I don't think this is true. Had their bronze license been approved by the SFA then they would have been able to play in the play-offs. It was only when they ended up not getting the license that they needed to have the grace period which they didn't apply for.

Thanks. Couldn't personally care less about La Liga but my son may occasionally watch it I suppose. Makes no odds to me in terms of whether to renew. Having Scotland will do it though. I wasn't sure if the League Cup sponsorship had expired and with it the tv deal? Doesn't really matter though. I'll renew if they've got the internationals anyway.

The League Cup sponsorship is until the end of 2026/27. https://spfl.co.uk/news/press-release-viaplay-cup

I don’t think you take a punt on Jack in the same way that you might on the other guys FWIW. Especially if McTominay does make it, we are pretty strong in those deeper central midfield positions with McTominay, Gilmour, McGregor and Kenny McLean, plus you can drop Christie or McGinn in there if need be.

I don't think any of those players are actually really that defensive minded in the role though, none of them are particularly good tacklers or great at breaking up play, which is what Jack was good at when he was at his best. Whether Jack can still do that now is debateable, but if he is in the squad that will be why, because I think it's actually a type of player we're really struggling to produce to any sort of decent level.

  9. I think they've taken over all the Viaplay stuff domestically, so they'll still have Scotland internationals (and all UEFA internationals not involving England, in fact) plus the two domestic cup competitions. They sometimes show qualifiers for the European competitions involving British clubs, but BBC Scotland have been picking up more of these recently. They also currently have the rights to La Liga but no idea if that will expire.

Here's the Final Reserve League Table. Congrats to QP. Only 8 games seems a tad short for a season.

There is also a cup competition with a group stage. Of course, the number of games would have increased if other clubs had not pulled out.

Until Norway scored against in Oslo they were dominant in the game and had created loads of chances. They were in total control. We tend to look at that game from our perspective but really, Norway Hibsed it. After they scored they changed formation and tactics, replacing Solbakken with Berge, a defensive midfielder, and sat in to hold the lead. That's a bloody stupid thing to do against Scotland, who are at their best on the front foot. They even took off Haaland in a triple change 10 minutes before the end. They completely Hibsed it.

Haaland is often quiet in games until he scores. He still won the penalty and left the pitch with his side 1-0 up.

None of this is relevant now of course, or to the discussion on the thread.

Norway's "total control" and "loads of chances" in that game corresponded to six shots, one on target, before that penalty. It was a dull game where both teams cancelled each other out, they were definitely slightly the better team, but you'd expect that, they were at home. We defended excellently throughout that game.

Did he write it? I can't find it in the Mail, only in the Sun and Record who say they pinched the story from them, and zero details on where they fall short.

No idea, was just pointing out that saying something came from the Daily Mail doesn't mean it's nonsense, in fact for this type of story it probably makes it more likely to be true.

A proposal would need to be fully fleshed out with all of its ramifications considered bearing in mind the plethora of possibilities that currently exist - one up to SPFL or no promotion and none down or one down and the impact that has at bottom plus the situation if champions from below are not licensed.  That takes a good deal of work.  In reality there will be many differing Club viewpoints which might not readily be reconciled into a one size fits all proposal.  You would expect that if change was to come that a majority of clubs would need to coalesce into supporting one clear and coherent plan that covers all the bases - then put that forward knowing they have majority support.

It doesn't take a good deal of work, somebody could do it in about half an hour.

I don't disagree with that, but I still think it's more than Armstrong has delivered.

Armstrong's big ticket moments were getting the first goal in the win over Lithuania that kept our 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign alive and scoring a double and setting one up away in Armenia in that Nations League game when we were in the midst of a bit of a wobble. However, he also played in every single game of that winning Nations League campaign, 6 of the games in the most recent Euros qualifying campaign and started the game that sealed the play-off place for the last World Cup.

He also set up Chris Martin's late winner against Slovenia, Forrest's first goal in that Israel game, Che Adams' goal against Denmark at Hampden and Shankland's equaliser against Gerorgia.

That's a long and illustrious Scotland career with sustained contributions, rather than just a very good couple of games.

Even looking at the match report from the Israel game where Forrest scored the hat-trick, I found the following:

    Spoiler

Celtic's Forrest has the Midas touch right now. Everything he touches turns to goals. Twelve in his past 11 games for club and country is an astonishing statistic for a winger. His composure for all three goals spoke volumes of his burgeoning self-confidence.

It was Stuart Armstrong, though, who dragged Scotland up by their bootlaces as the good feeling built up in Saturday's 4-0 win over Albania threatened to drain away with the Hampden rain.

Following a first quarter dominated by the Israelis, the Southampton midfielder drove the hosts forward. His first foray almost brought a goal for Callum McGregor - a good hand from Ariel Harush denying him.

But shortly afterwards Armstrong burst into the box again. His shot was charged down but fell kindly for Forrest, who lashed it low beyond the keeper to begin the turnaround.

This isn't true yet, is it?

If Dundee win all four of their games, and St Mirren win their three which aren't against Dundee, and we lose all of ours, then Dundee would be a point ahead of us and St Mirren level on points.

You are correct. I apologise. Disaster for Killie.

    Now CONFIRMED.

  16. Still not sure what tournament we'll be starting in, but we are definitely on our way to Europe. Obviously some major demons to exorcise from last time, but with the manager's experience at this level I reckon we have a decent chance of at least winning a tie or two if we get half decent draws.

Looking at the Europa League route, it's possible we could end up playing the likes of Ajax or Porto straight away, which would be a great tie to get but also one we'd have basically no chance in.

  17. We would have an extremely good team if we were allowed guys playing in other countries, but instead it has several Championship players and only one playing at a club above us in the league.

    Hemming

    O'Donnell Broadfoot Murray Taylor

    Frizzell O'Hara Kiltie

    Mackay Brophy Muirhead

We could have had guys like Daniel Bachmann, Sean Longstaff and Kristoffer Ajer who might have improved things somewhat compared to what's there.
