  1. He played left back in 1 game last season near the end (Queen of the South at home if I remember right) Looked very composed on the ball, and wasn't afraid to get forward. He also go stuck in. The game was meaningless mind you, but he coped very well. However if the guy in question said he would be key for Scotland in the next 10 years, why did John McGlynn wait over a year to sign Willie Dyer on a free from Brechin? The latter part indicates, JMcG still thinks he isin't ready just yet for the full team. We'll just have to wait and see what happens over the course of the season, and he might be unearthed at some point in the season. Either that or a team comes in for him with some money.
  2. Yeah definately. However it's good that we have someone like that, that is forever wanting the ball, laying it off, then moving again. baird was like this all game, and we get it into his feet, we can spread the ball and allow players to get ahead of him. It was funny when he was shouting at McBride. From his point of view he was wanting the pass through, but for McBride it was a chance for him to have a run at the full-back. I seem to remember him shouting at Baird back, presumably because he ended up getting fouled. All this when we were 4-1 up! Sometime's you need to have a rolicking at your team mates. I often have a good rant when I'm playing at Dalgety Bay in our 7s league!!
  3. I'm not surprised, Tade is a joker after all and you can see that within the team. They both said they liked playing with each other, and Baird even described what was good about Tade's game. I can see them really giving centre backs a rough time this season! Mole can be a good option from the bench. Or even better, have them all playing, and have Walker, Davidson and Simmons/Ferry in the centre! Now there's an idea!
  4. DING! We have a winner!! Green Dot....and for a Par? Ah I'm feeling kind.
  5. What do you mean COULD? He already went the whole of LAST season without scoring.
  6. Jamie Mole back till January. Jamie Mole Returns Hmmmm. Well least it's a striker and he knows all the players.
  7. That is the thing...how are is McGlynn supposed to strengthen the squad when his hands are STILL tied behind his back? McBride and Baird although on full-time deals will maybe be on slightly less wages than maybe Sloan and Darren Smith? But I'm just guessing. Or maybe on a similar wage but we will get more out of them being younger and full time? My guess is as good as any one else though. McGlynn always said he wanted to lower the average age of the squad and he has done this. Campbell and Wilson when back will be like new signings basically. First few pre-season fixtures will get the boys fit, and hopefully firing on all cylinders. Never know, Tade might bag some goals. Maybe Williamson has discovered how to actually challenge and put himself about? I don't think we'll match what we achieved last season, but I don't think it will be drastically worse in terms of injuries, suspensions and call off's.
  8. Who needs defence when you have John Baird and Gregory Tade up-front? looking forward to chanting "put your hands up for John Baird" up at Forfar after his hatrick.
  9. I thought I was going to lose the plot along at Airdrie. he was utterly the worst player I had seen at right back, and this includes a whole list of shite right-backs that I've seen watching the Rovers! It did seem like he was trying maybe a bit too hard. This ultimately cost him. Keep it simple in these leagues. No need for the Cryuff turns followed by a world cup pass. Maybe 1 every 10 games would be nice though.
  10. Might as well of chucked yourself into the North sea! Cover is needed definately, without Campbell and Wilson we are left with, Ellis, Murray, Dyer, Hill and you could include young Kevin Brown but I'm not sure McGlynn would want to shove him in right at the start of the season. The first few league games are at home...hopefully we get through both of the cup ties unscaved and take it from there. Knowing our luck with injuries though...we're screwed.
  11. Did the back line of Wilson, Murray, Simmons, Ferry fill you with confidence up in Aberdeen? We'll be fine.
  12. He has been doing some pre-season training, but it said in the one of the Sunday papers (news of the world I think ) that he hasn't kicked a ball in 4 months, so just has to ease himself in. Hopefully he will get some sort of pre-season schedule behind him so he can be ready for September, which is only the 2nd month of the season guys. He could have said Christmas! Wilson is also struggling, with an X-ray confirming his arm is still broken in 3 places, but obviously just minor now. He too is still getting through pre-season though, without any contact, but plenty of running and using the ball. We coped without these two players throughout the end of the season without any major problems, so surely 1 month we will be ok.
  13. Hopefully we don't see too many tackles from behind this season then.
  14. Never seen the guy play, but again, I'm sure McGlynn knows what he is doing. Sad to see Darren Smith go as well. He was a nippy player that put in a good cross. He was good at the start of the season, but I think ultimately fitness was the downfall for him. At the end of the day we have signed a player who is 20 years old, who McGlynn can develop as a player, and letting go a player who is 30 and on his way out of football. It can only be a good thing. If we are to build as a club, we have to bring in these types of players on full time contracts. I might get shot down for this as well, but why does everyone think Kevin Smith can be signed for 3 months only?? Smith was signed on an emergency loan last season, and therefore because he was over the age of 21 we could only have him for 3 months. If the loan deal goes through before the start of the season, I'm pretty sure we could have him for the season. No? I'm not completely in with the rules of loans and the like, but that was my take on it. Oh and welcome to the Rovers Scott, better get some decent performances from the word go or you will be getting booed before you can say "hooked".
  15. Signed for the Rovers from Cowden is that what you mean? If so I haven't heard this. Any good?
  16. I cringe reading posts on fantalk with posters typing how they actually speak. Gets right on my tits...ken wha a mean bud?
  17. I think Wilson should be kept at right back, with Murray and Campbell in the central berths. Ellis at left back. We are sound definsively when Bertie plays at right back, but I can't see him getting forward enough. This is more suited to Wilson. If Dyer impresses going forward during pre-season, then he might get in ahead of Ellis. Let's not forget young Kevin Brown who looked like he had played their all season, albeit playing in basically a meaningless game against QOS. Hill for me would therefore drop to the bench. With Bert turning 35 next season, although he is really fit, it would make sense for McGlynn to change the defence about from time to time, without disrupting the harmony of the squad. McNeil for me is a decent signing, although I haven't heard much about him. Hopefully he develops a good relationship with McGurn and provide decent competition for the number 1 jersey. With Baird to come in, that leaves maybe 2 or 3 more positions to cover. Like others have posted, another left winger and a striker would be ideal. McGlynn looks like he is trying to build a decent team from the back. The less goals you concede, the better chance you have of not losing. Now we just need someone who will give us that bit of consistency up top and bang some goals in. The back of the Press today is positive reading. SPL within 3 seasons. A realistic target in my opinion. It also mentions that the directors want to see some progress from the youth academy and see some players blooded into the first team. Hopefully some of the players who have the potential can break through either this season or next.
  18. Would Dargo be worth a Punt? Not exactly the target man we are crying out for, but anybody with SPL experience is fine in my book. Look at how Bert turned out, albeit him being a defender.
  19. Play Agathe up front with Tade, Baird on the wing. Sorted. Agathe was great for Rovers. I didn't see him when he scored a hat-trick on his debut at Airdrie, but saw the highlights on TV. My best memory of Agathe was ripping Blobby Mann up in Inverness! Those were the days. Think that was the last time we actually won there!!
  20. They could always just release him and then have an agreement to buy him off us again if he bags us 30 goals next season?
  21. All the goals were great, but I would have picked Bert's as well. Just for the occasion. Also for a centre back he struck it rather beautifully! Ferry's goal V Morton also was very good technique, Cryuff turning the defender before curling it right in the corner. Peach!
