Kinda proves my point - you have a Tier 6, where the whole point is to progress.  Yet the league is full of teams  unlikely to be licensed anytime soon to progress to Tier 5 (LL - where it is a requirement, I believe).

Surely a Pyramid will only work when teams either meet or are working to the basic criteria of Licensing?

The point of a pyramid is that there are different criteria as you get higher. In theory it should start off at the bottom rung being amateurs where the only requirement would be a pitch and somewhere to get changed, and as you move higher up the requirements get higher, such as fenced off park, cover for fans, floodlights etc.

The problem we have is that for too long different leagues have run as their own little fiefdoms and not been joined up in any way, in fact trying to do the exact opposite

  2. Im hoping Thompson at least gets some time training with the squad this november, so he is not coming in Fresh for the 6N.

How long is Barclay out for, as I would have him and Watson as the 2 nailed on starters, then depending on how we want to play / the opposition Barclay is either 6 or 8.

I would also be looking at shifting Fagersson to 6, he is a great prospect just doesn't / wont have the size needed to be a great international no.8, but does have all the skills for wing forward.

I've always had to assume that it was a personality issue with Strauss and Townsend.  I guess Townsend is prepared to let things slide in that regard.

I don't think Strauss should ever have been dropped, but here we are.

I think they did fall out, dont know why. Probably goes back to their Glasgow days as I think Strauss was put out that he never got offered another contract at Glasgow. To be fair he had already said he wanted to play in England, so Toonie probably thought there was no point in offering him, but Strauss probably felt put out by not even getting offered one.

  4. Really surprised by Strauss and Weir call ups, Weir more understandable as Lang got injured at the weekend for Harlequins, but Strauss it appears is due to Townsend realising that none of the forwards can grind out the hard yards.

We are playing fucking Wales? Can't we play NZ, SA or Australia, I thought that was the point of the Autumn internationals?

We've got Fiji, Argentina and SA for the AI's. This is a bonus game so the SRU can afford to offer new contracts to Hogg and Gray in hte hope we dont lose them to France or England.

  6. If the ER juniors become a feeder to the LL, doesn't that leave the SFA open to legal action given that clubs from above the LL/HL line were told they couldn't join the EoS last year as they were outside their area?

Even if this is true, my likely take on what will happen is that the west takes care of itself, although long term what happens with SoS is up for debate. The west having 4 region wide divisions is not really a pyramid structure so potential for merging is possible at some point in the future.

In the east I can see them running a parallel East Junior league at tiers 6 & 7 next year which champions playing off for the right to enter LL playoff, then final league positions being used to merge the 2 leagues into one for 20/21. Those clubs close to the boundary given a choice whether they go north or south.

  7. So hose also having a "rest" this week are Nell, McInally & Brown, Dell (or is he injured), Grey, Gilchrist, Wilson, Watson, Thompson (although not going to SA due to his wife giving birth) Price, Hastings, Dunbar, Jones, Seymour, Jones and Kinghorn

Not that i am going to read anything into that of course

  8. Anscombe is a seething mess in that, the ref tell him its up to Cardiff to change strip if they are unhappy but at no point do Cardiff decide to change the strip. IF it was that bad surely they could have changed at half time or at any point during the game.

Glasgow as the away side turn up with their kit, and its up to the home side to change if there is a clash, as the home side should have access to another kit. Seemingly the kits were submitted to EPCR and they decided there wasn't a clash.

  9. Just watched the first episode of Titans, which is the new DC series based on Teen Titans. Much darker than the other DC series (Flash / Arrow etc), and I would say head and shoulders above anything else DC universe with the exception of Wonder Woman. High hopes for the rest of the season if it carries on in the same vein.

Took that as a saviour that survived last season's finale. Pretty sure the shot followed Eugene talking, so a way to remind everyone he's now amongst a group of people he's betrayed/maimed.

Presumably whoever has it has better supplies and storage.

Maybe Im misremembering another zombie movie or did a woman in a van not trade information/knowledge at some point last season. They'd be my pick.

It was last season i think. I had thought they were the same people as the ones leaving the boxes in Fear... but dont think it was in the end.

  11. Never heard of Skinner, all the talk of the Exeter 2nd row getting called up was that it was Ollie Atkins who we capped for Scotland A.

Suprised about Thompson as he had said he wanted to concentrate on playing well for Scarlets, although I suppose the carrot of playing at the world cup was too much to pass up.

  12. I can see both sides of the argument with Glasgow,

On the one hand we seem to have gone backwards since winning the Pro12 as it was under Townsend, and apart from getting to the quarters once have not managed to compete with the big boys in Europe. Its also been glaringly obvious we cant grind out results, and under Rennie now in his second season in charge we are not seeing any progress. Its been obvious to everyone we need some beef up front, but we made no moves over the summer to rectify this.

On the other the budget at Glasgow is dwarfed by teams in the Premeriship and France, and in Ireland also and we dont have the finances to buy our way to a better squad. We already have one of the biggest squads in world rugby, due to the fact we lose so many players to internationals and we simply cant afford the same quality as everyone else.

On the game of the bits I saw, we actually fronted up will in the forwards, and didn't go backwards in the scrums, defended excellently,  it was more in attack were we had issues, and again is down to a lack of composure, or looking for the killer pass when just taking the tackle and recycling is a better option. Plus we obviously had some poor decisions go against us, but you have to make your own luck at times. Dunbar going off was a blow as he usually gets us over the gainline which gives us momentum which in turn makes space for Jones, and the back 3. I like Fagersson and think he is going to be a big player for us, but would maybe be better at 6 rather than 8. We dont really have anyone else (and haven't since Strauss left) that is a big dominating ball carrier in the forwards.

Glasgow Uni might struggle if the criteria change.

If the rules are changed, clubs with "historic membership rights", should be given 3-5 years to meet the new standard.

I dont think they would be able to make any changes for the lowest level - ie take the license off of someone as they have moved the goalposts significantly. As the majority of the licence is back office and prodecures and with Glasgow Uni groundsharing with Airdrie, I cant see what changes they could make for Glasgow Uni to lose theirs?

  14. I think price just shades wriggles worth, and DTH will get the better of Maitland, Jones v strettle with be fairly even, our centres are better but obviously Farrell is way ahead of hastings

  16. I stopped using kodi a while ago, and have been using hte Morpheus app (since terrarium went down) which has been excellent for TV and Films, had problems with both Kodi and Terrarium buffering but had no buffering at all with Morpheus. Only down side is that it doesn't mark which episodes you have seen off a box set which can be annoying as i tend to forget where i've got up to.

  17. What annoyed me most about the episode was the glass floor at the museum, it was so obvious what was going to happen.

Surely there must have been another set of stairs to take the things down.

Also quite liked the evolution of man skit at the start.

Got to agree 4 or 5 seasons ago Gregory getting hanged would have been a big deal, now it was a pretty meh moment.
