That is sensational, even by the standards of that particular fan base.

Obviously, the Rosa Parks bit is staggeringly beyond any kind of parody.  However, it would be a mistake to overlook the sheer majesty of his closing words : "We're as much the biggest club in Scotland as anyone else." It's hard to argue with such a coherent case.

That particular line had me chuckling away too. If the guy was having a laugh I would have admired the subtlety in which that line was delivered, but when it becomes clear that the guy is deadly serious you begin to wonder just how warped his brain must be. It takes a special kind of mental case to compare an apparent refereeing conspiracy against Celtic (a team that has won 12 (TWELVE!) trophies in a row in recent memory), to the struggles of black citizens in 1950s Alabama courageously standing up for their civil rights.

The overwhelming feeling I had after watching that video was sadness, I genuinely feel sorry for that man. I feel sorry that he’s got to the later stages of his life and quite obviously has absolutely nothing else going on apart from the fortunes of Celtic. He could be spending time with his grandchildren, meeting up with his old pals for a pint and a game of darts or taking his family on a summer holiday, but instead he’s taking a video of himself speaking about refereeing decisions against Celtic as if it actually has any real importance in his life. It’s sad to see but there is so many Old Firm fans out there whose whole life revolves around their football club, and they become so involved that you end up getting mental videos like the one above. Unfortunately that mentality will be passed down to their offspring, it’s a never ending cycle.

You do know our manager has never won an opening league  game anywhere in his managerial career.

What a bundle of laughs you are  Supporting a team like St Mirren means you only get the odd joyous occasion, and every win is celebrated by the fans because the majority of them know that it doesn’t take much for our fortunes to change. I’m pretty certain you are a genuine St Mirren supporter, but I can’t quite get my head around why it is that almost every single post you make on this forum is a negative one towards the team you ‘support’. Last week you had us getting beat off Forfar, but were notable by your absence after we had stuck 4 past them and landed a home tie in the draw.

This can’t be far off St Mirrens longest and most successful run in the Premier division for at least 40 years, so it seems a bit odd that you still continue to find the negatives in almost every single thing related to the club.

We only have 1 keeper, whos played 3 games above League One in his career, and 5 defenders, in our squad.

The 5 defenders contain 2 left backs who've barely played any games in 18 months, and a 36yo LCB whos legs seemed to completely go last season and who doesnt seen to even be appearing in pre-season training images.

You lot are absolutely miles away from having to worry about relegation when we're here.

To be fair we hear similar stories every summer from fans of teams like ours. You will know much more about St Johnstones squad than me, but I don’t think come the end of the season there will be much between the teams I mentioned on the previous post. One player can be the difference between a relegation battle and a top 6 finish, and there is still plenty of time for the squads to take shape.

It's a bit unfair to blame Utd's relegation on their keeper. The CB's were woeful regularly and their midfielders were shocking defensively... neither did they work well as a team. Hugely inconsistent too. Then the chaos of new managers...

And they never scored loads of goals overall either.

    Perfect storm.

I can’t claim to be an expert on their squad last year but from what I seen of them it looked like they had the quality in attacking areas but were liable to ship a goal at any moment due to a goalkeeper and defence that had no confidence in the abilities of each other. Alkmaar away was a horror show and it continued into the league, then I think they chopped and changed GKs with no success. Guys like Levitt and McGrath shouldn’t be in a team getting automatically relegated, but I do agree their defence wouldn’t have filled me with confidence either. That’s a very black and white way of looking at it but I’m sure even some Dundee Utd fans believe a better ‘keeper could have been the difference between 12th and staying in the league.

  5. The goalkeeper situation is worrying and I think that’s down the to the fact we have such a recent example in Dundee United, where most people would have said the outfield players were of a good enough standard to be nowhere near relegation, but the horrorshow between the posts dragged them down to such a level where the quality in other areas of the pitch couldn’t compensate for it. I know we got top 6 last year but the OF, Aberdeen, Hearts and possibly Hibs excepted, there is slim margins between the rest of the teams in the league. A shaky goalkeeper and a defence with their confidence shot to pieces could be the difference between 6th and 12th.

  6. The downside of the Firesticks when watching a game you’re invested in, I heard my neighbour cheering for the Dykes goal a good 2 minutes before he scored on my TV which slightly ruined the moment as I knew the goal was coming. 60 seconds later I heard him cheering even louder and I genuinely assumed he was celebrating a replay of the same Dykes goal, so when McLean slid that ball in to the net it came as a complete surprise. How good is it that Scotland are now a team that do things like that to other nations? That absolutely sickening feeling that all Scotland fans know so well, is now something we dish out to semi-competent teams like Norway.

So reminiscent of when Killie went down and we had Colin Doyle in nets, with his highlight of throwing the ball in against St Mirren. If the defence has no confidence in the keeper then the panic and fear spreads right through the team.

At end of the day confidence is a huge factor as the squad at Tannadice shouldn't be in the position they are in.

Hopefully a far more successful season next year for you guys.

I think I was at that game with Colin Doyle  did he not let one straight through his legs?

Confidence between the back line and the goalkeeper is crucial for any team. You could tell the Dundee United players had absolutely no confidence in the guy behind them.

I seen this on Twitter earlier and one Rangers supporter said he looks like he had a stroke. It was replied to by a Celtic fan saying someone called Flint is in a wheelchair and won't walk again. As I continued to read the replies apparently there was an orange walk that walked past a 'Catholic pub' and that was unacceptable. I've no idea what a Catholic pub is but that video of apparent unacceptable behaviour was replied to with Celtic supporters standing under a bridge at the Coronation banging drums and singing songs telling the Brits to get out of Ireland, yesterday.

I'll give you this, it's something else.

There is Old Firm fans in Scotland that won’t be happy until they get to run about the streets throwing petrol bombs at police cars and segregating their neighbourhoods by religious beliefs. I would suggest to those people that if they really want to get involved in that you can get a flight to Belfast in under 40 minutes from Glasgow Airport, go and knock yourselves out.

  9. On Keith’s appraisal scene they had to cut right after David says ‘under weaknesses you’ve put eczema’, because Gervais couldn’t stop laughing. The scene was actually meant to run on and Keith was supposed to say ‘yeah…on my feet’.

The outtakes from the Office are brilliant, no idea how they managed to film half the scenes without laughing.

If we had a competent goalkeeper I don't think there's any question we'd have stayed up. There were individual errors across the board, but none as often or more costly than from the goalkeeper position.

I'm not saying we'd have finished way up the table, but he's been culpable in enough games that there'd be a 6 or 9 point swing easily.

Yeah it seemed any time I watched a Dundee United game the keeper was having a howler. But that went right back to the Alkmaar game away, so it wasn’t like the management team didn’t get fair warning. I agree with you too I think a keeper like Carson in goals could have genuinely been the difference between 12th and 7th for yous this season.

For the umpteenth transfer window in a row, the priorities are a competent goalkeeper, a big dirty centre half, a hard b*****d centre midfielder, and a goalscorer.

Looking forward to the influx of wing-backs who can't defend, and attacking midfielders who create nothing and can't tackle

Hypothetical question but do you think United would have stayed up if they kept Trevor Carson for this season? The goalkeeping position seems to have been a big part of United’s downfall this year, and the decision to let him leave looks like a terrible one because he’s been excellent for St Mirren. When you look at some of the outfield players they probably shouldn’t be in a team getting relegated automatically. Levitt, McGrath, Behich and Fletcher come to mind, but obviously they’ve not been performing for one reason or another, and the guys watching them every week will know better, but it seems like the lack of quality in the goalkeeping and defensive positions have killed you this year.

I think losing Main Baccus and the likes of O’Hara would be a disaster for next season.

I get that they might bring in some decent cash in regards to O’Hara and Baccus. But very difficult to replace in my opinion.

I’m more worried about losing Strain before the start of next season, there must be some clubs with their eye on him. Teams that can offer more money than us unfortunately.

My ex boyfriend was a train engineer for ScotRail, he said think of what happens to a fly when it hits a car windscreen......

I think the drivers get well looked after, they had a guy who was based in yard as he'd had six go in front of him over the years.

Yeah they usually try and keep the drivers within the business and retrain them into another role, they have a lot of experience of the safety systems etc and can slot quite easily into a different job. Some of the shunters at Shields Road are ex train drivers, which is probably one of the most cushty jobs you can get working in a depot. Obviously we all wish it never happened but I think if you spent any length of time as a train driver it’s almost inevitable that an incident like this will happen to you, as sad as that is.

I think one of the grimmest fatalities I attended was out at Carluke, a young lad stepped out in front of a Pendolino, not a lot of him left intact and the worst bit was finding his face lying in the four foot, not good 😞

On another note it’s been reported that the Met will no longer attend mental health calls, I wonder how long before this will spread to other forces?

That’s horrific to hear, it must be horrible to get the call to attend a suicide on the railway. Those Pendo’s are travelling at 100mph and I can only imagine what that impact would do to a human body. I know sometimes these incidents weigh heavily on the train drivers mind but there is literally nothing they can do, even if they see the person from half a mile away. They can slam their brakes into emergency stop but that then risks the lives of the passengers on board. It’s easy for me to say because I’ve never been in the situation but they shouldn’t feel any sense of guilt, although I imagine it would be hard to get your head round.

I'm really not sold on Watt. Other than a very good goal against Livi, not sure he's done enough to prove he'll be a real asset. Lacks consistency and his career to date has been more miss than hit.

For the reported wages he is on I would rather trust Robinson and his team to go out and find a striker that could possibly hit double digits next season. Watt is a good player but he’s not worth breaking the budget for.  By all accounts Brophy was on a healthy weekly wage too so we should be able to go and offer a respectable salary to someone either from England or abroad.

I know he’s just won Young Player of the Year, but Grieve is not the guy. Don’t mind him coming on late in games to stretch a tiring defence but unfortunately he’s just not got the quality to score 10+ goals a season in this league.

  16. Going to Arran in a couple of weeks time to visit a friend that’s working over there, and I will take the clubs over to get a game on the Saturday morning. Anyone on here able to recommend the best course to play if you could only choose one? Would prefer to play 18 holes so that only leaves Brodick, Lamlash and Whiting Bay. Any recommendations on what one would be the best out the 3?

On the suicide by train/truck/car theme, we also should probably be pushing for better treatment for the drivers/engineers involved in these situations, as they are as much a victim as the family of the deceased.

I’ve been a contractor in the rail industry for the past 8 years or so and I’ve worked in depots all over the UK, and unfortunately I’ve had had to deal with stock being brought into the depot due to train strikes on an almost monthly basis. As you have hinted at the train drivers take on a huge burden when someone decides to end their life by stepping in front of a train. When I worked in London on the west coast main line Virgin fleet I know that a driver involved in a train strike was entitled to an initial 3 months paid leave. If the same driver was unlucky enough to have to deal with another train strike they were offered a package which would take into account their length of service and they would basically get a pay off. Not to be insensitive here but these pay offs were usually very lucrative and most drivers were happy to take the package. I think most rail franchises operate a similar system and try to protect their drivers from these situations.

I spent a couple of years at Scotrails Shield Road depot and they have a designated pit outside the shed which is solely for pressure washing human remains from the underside of a train. Again, it was something which happened far too often and was not a pleasant job for the guy that had to go under. On a couple of occasions the British Transport Police came in and left with a bag containing the deceased’s eyeballs, parts of their brain matter or shards of bone that had been stuck in the undercarriage of the train. It must be a horrific sight for the first responders on the scene.

Okolie is just committing career suicide here. He could have easily won this through better boxing but he’s so desperate for a knockout that he has been so sloppy and made to pay for it.

Watched the fight live last night and couldn’t believe Okolies tactics. When he created a bit of space for himself he was able to get 3/4 punches off and looked good in doing so. However, for some unknown reason, he decided that after throwing a single right hand (which almost always missed) he would spear in towards Billam-Smith with his shoulder and hold on for the next 5-10 seconds. I was actually surprised he didn’t get another point taken off, his shoulder was landing on CBS’ chin more often than not. I can’t believe his corner wasn’t imploring him to try and make that bit of space, even if it came after a clinch where he could push off and let 3 or 4 punches off. After the knockdowns and point deductions he must have known only a KO would do, but he didn’t seem to change tactics.

A truly terrible fight to watch, not helped by the hapless referee Marcus McDonald who must be one of the worst A Star referees on the circuit. A referee should only be coming into contact with the fighters after he has shouted ‘stop boxing’ and they need to be separated. There was numerous occasions last night where he jumped in while both boxers were still trying to get punches off on the inside, and this clown is hanging off their arms without telling them to break. He has a terrible habit of trying to slap a fighters gloves if he thinks they are holding on but doesn’t communicate why he is doing it. A better referee could possibly have nipped some of that nonsense in the bud last night but Okolie seems to have a reputation now, which is well deserved tbh.
