Regarding the Scottish cup winners and Europe this season?

Do we as St Mirren fans prefer seeing one of the arse cheeks winning the trophy with the current europa league qualification criteria?

If Falkirk or Inverness won would they enter Europe?

    🤢

As much as I wouldn’t enjoy seeing another OF cup win, if we make top 6 then we need to be selfish and hope that 5th place gets us a European tie and the chance of competing in group stage football.

At that price I'd give them a call as well. Might as well spend a few minutes on the off-chance there's someone who can speak English and put your mind at ease.

It's a lot of money, but would be a great thing to do. Good luck.

I’ve sort of got my heart set on it now even though I’m aware it’s not exactly value for money  but as you say it would be a great experience and a one off for special occasion. Will definitely try and find out the ins and outs before I book though.
I will report back and let yous know if it is indeed a waste of money or if it’s actually worth it. My thinking is that a Barcelona v Atletico Madrid game is going to be of a high enough quality to justify it, with plenty of top class players that we can say we have seen live; Lewandowski, Griezmann etc. Also would be good to see Diego Simeones antics up close, and this is his last season at Atletico Madrid.

  3. My Rangers supporting pal was telling me Ryan Kent’s contract expires this summer and he’s likely to move on as a free agent? If that’s true that’s a horrendous bit of business from Rangers considering the money they spent on his transfer fee. Surely Rangers could have got a Championship/lower EPL club to spend £7m on him last year and at least get their initial outlay back.

I don’t particularly rate Kent, and although he can produce the odd bit of magic he’s not someone I particularly fear when he’s playing against St Mirren. Tavernier and Barasic have caused us much more trouble than Kent ever has, I think players know how to play against him now and they are mostly successful at nullifying him. I wonder what Championship team will take a punt on him? Can see him going to a Watford or Sunderland type team, maybe get a shot at the Premier League if he gets promoted.

Josh Taylor Teofimo Lopez confirmed June 10th at Madison Square Garden.

Let’s hope Taylor screws the nut for this fight, a win over Lopez would do wonders for his profile in America, but a loss and he’s back to the UK most likely rematching Catterall for no belts.

The weight could be a real issue, it was his excuse for looking so sluggish against Catterall that he struggled at 140 and I don’t think it will have got any easier for him 14 months down the line. Is he expected to move up to 147 after this? It would make sense for his bank account but I’m not so sure he competes with some of the names in that division.

Get in touch with them about it-id work on the basis that if theyre unwilling to communicate about it then they don't deserve over a grand of your cash

Good advice. I will give them an email before I book anything and hopefully they are happy to explain what’s included.

How much are the prices as a matter of interest?normal match day tickets for Barcelona are utterly ridiculous in themselves

There's probably a dress code too

It’s €550 a ticket, which I’m fully aware is a ridiculous amount to spend on a football match, but as I said it would be a special occasion and something which would be very much appreciated. Theres a real lack of info out there with regards to what is included in the price of the ticket. From what I can gather it’s free food and drink while you are in the lounge and a seat in the ‘premium’ area of the main stand. It doesn’t sound like fantastic value for money if I’m being honest but it’s more the occasion I would be paying for.

  7. Any one on here bought VIP/Hospitality tickets for a Barcelona game at Camp Nou before? I wouldn’t normally consider it but it’s a very special occasion for a family member and I know they would be absolutely over the moon with it. I’m looking at the Barcelona - Atletico Madrid game a week on Sunday and the official website has main stand VIP tickets available, but the only information they give is access to a lounge an hour and a half before the game, premium tickets in the main stand and access to the lounge post match for an hour. I’m assuming it’s free food and drink at those sort of prices (unsure if they have factored in 2 Scottish guys at a free bar into their ticket price), as well as your tickets for the match, but does anyone on here have any experience of it? I can’t find much information online at all, apart from a couple of TripAdvisor reviews. I don’t want to shell out then get there thinking we would have been better in a local pub. Im probably going to just bite the bullet and buy them unless someone comes on here in the next 12 hours or so and tells me it’s a waste of money so any info would be appreciated.

Sad to watch that this took place in Paisley, for sure.

At least they weren't attacking each other atop white chargers. Post-match there's no doubt that wee Cooper the dug has already had a kicking.

Wearing a Rangers or Celtic top to go to a shop 15 minutes before kick off is bad enough tbh. The encounter between the two fans made me realise that there really is very little that separates the clubs. OF fans think I’m joking when I say that I see Rangers and Celtic as the same club. They are literally commercial partners, who up until a few years ago would negotiate sponsorship deals as a package, and recently teamed up in order to convince the Lowland League that Rangers and Celtic ‘B’ teams would be good for them. Quite hysterically, they also have joint ownership of the ‘Old Firm’ trademark  The fans would have you believe the rivalry is something comparable to Boca - River Plate or Lazio - Roma, when in reality it’s 2 clubs bleeding their fans dry by exploiting historical links to religion, politics and 17th century battles fought in foreign countries.

To fans like me it doesn’t matter one iota wether it’s the blue side or the green side that win the league or the cup, but OF fans put so much value on these successes over the other side that they genuinely cannot see how meaningless they actually are in the grand scheme of things. I fear there is going to be a lot of OF fans lying on their death bed in a few years, talking about reaching the Europa League final or winning a quadruple treble as if it was one of their life achievements.

Losers in life support the Old Firm. A brief hour in Paisley town centre late this afternoon confirmed that for me

    absolute scum

I was in the shop beside the Millarston petrol station about 15 minutes before kick off today. A drunk guy was standing picking beers out the fridge wearing the old yellow Celtic top with CR Smith on the front, and a guy walked in behind me wearing a Rangers top. The drunk Celtic fan greeted the Rangers fan like a long lost friend, laughing and joking away with him saying stuff like ‘aw the best today mate hope yous get fucked though haha’, before shaking hands and looking around the shop as if they had just brokered a peace deal between the Provisional IRA and the UVF. It was genuinely sad to watch.

Far from being worried, I'm delighted. It's allowed us to plod on during the same period to come within a point of them.

IF we make the top 6 we'll have both Aberdeen and Hearts at home and no reason why we can't beat both.

Well worry was probably the wrong word for us, I agree it’s an excellent set of circumstances for St Mirren, but Hearts fans must be wondering how the f**k they have thrown away 3rd position, especially to a team like Aberdeen who have been a complete shambles at times this season, albeit they seem to have got their act together under Robson.

Aberdeen and Hearts at home in the top 6 will be some of the most important games we have played in the league for years, I can see there being big crowds and an excellent atmosphere at those games. What a feeling it will be to go and watch a St Mirren team fighting for European places instead of battling to avoid relegation, as has been common for the majority of time we’ve spent in the Premiership since 2000.

I've seen this pic sooo many times.

This is exactly the sort of thing P&B was designed for, celebrating your team's victory by logging on here, gloating and rubbing salt into the wounds of your despondent opponents. Glorious.

It’s a picture I have mixed feelings around because it would have been a non-OF team winning the league, but on the other hand there is a sizeable amount of Hearts fans that blame St Mirren for their failure even though they got cuffed by Dundee on the same day which allowed Celtic to win the league, it was completely in their hands.

I remember going back to when Jack Ross left and Robbie Neilson was heavily linked with the vacant St. Mirren role after leaving MK Dons and wouldn't even consider us for an interview.

I was actually talking about this to a fellow St Mirren fan in work during the week. I know that Neilson had at least one meeting with the St Mirren board at the time, and wether it was down to money or Neilsons ego he knocked back the offer, ultimately taking the Dundee United job a few months down the line. His decisions gave us the infamous ‘penalty shootout fist pump’ when the teams met in the Premiership play off, only for Dundee United to go ahead and miss every penalty they took and consign them to another year in the Championship.

It’s quite worrying how much Hearts have imploded over these last few weeks or so, I genuinely thought they had 3rd place sewn up but now it looks like they have a battle on their hands to even get a European place, especially taking into account recent form. I know 3rd place gets into the Europa play off, and 4th into the Conference play off, but is there any scenario that sees 5th place get into Europe I.e. if the Scottish Cup winners have already qualified through league position does 5th place take the Cup winners slot?

Scotland has a talent for knocking their own.

The guy is a p***k. He should be nowhere near St Mirren, and I think the only reason he is putting himself out there just now is for clicks on his social media accounts. He is good friends with a friend of mine and I’ve actually played golf with him on a couple of occasions at Mar Hall. No doubt the guy has a few quid, but he’s basically scamming gullible fools by selling them places on property investment courses at £4/5k a time. Hes also a thin skinned man child, who made a video showing documents proving that he was the owner of his McLaren supercar, all because someone commented saying he wasn’t the owner. If you had enough money that you could afford half a million quid worth of cars, would you be concerning yourself with the opinions of anonymous people on the internet? I do know that he is a genuine St Mirren supporter, I’ve seen him regularly at the games, but even if he fronted up the cash I would be extremely wary of having him holding any influence over the running of the club. I’m 99% sure it’s a social media stunt, and I hope the club realise this.

3rd place playoff should be good

 Don’t envy Scottie or Rory here, potentially 36+ holes today for the grand prize of 3rd position. Don’t think either of them will be caring much wether they win or lose so we could see some exciting holes between them, they will be going for everything.

  15. McIlroy has just cost me about 2800 quid  how the f**k did he manage to throw that away over the last few holes. I tuned out when I seen him 2up on 15, I am absolutely spewing genuinely cannot believe what I’ve just seen.

Put an accumulator on this morning for McIlroy to win, along with Forest Green at 7/1 and England -1. Literally could have cashed out for 1200 quid odd on the 15th tee but wasn’t even sweating that he would throw it away. Genuinely feel like turning up at his door and assaulting him, I know he’s a nice guy but he’s just done me up like a kipper, and the worst thing about it is that he is absolutely oblivious to it all. Can’t even watch the rest of the coverage now.

Watched the Benavidez v Plant fight this morning. Tremendous fight.

Benavidez v Canelo in the autumn please.

Benavidez Plant was an excellent fight. It’s a shame that boxing fans are so starved of genuine 50/50 matchups with two guys operating at a high level that a fight like that is seen as an outlier.

I can’t remember a time for a good few years where I’ve been as ambivalent towards the upcoming fights. Tank v Garcia should be good, but that’s another fight that should have happened 2 years ago. Josh Taylor v Teofimo Lopez is another I’m looking forward to but I don’t think that’s even been confirmed. Canelo v Ryder, Joshua v Franklin? I wouldn’t pay much attention to either of those fights if they were happening in my front garden.

It has to be Training. The edit where you can see Rowan staring blankly towards the sky and hear Brent's guitar playing gently in the background is 10/10.

    Bald old git.

The scene where Tim and Gareth are working together for the ‘Fox, Chicken, Grain’ exercise is also absolutely top tier.

‘Hello, I’m a chicken. Thank you Tim for leaving me with my favourite food!’

‘Yeah Gareth I just said you couldn’t do that.’

I think that's my only disappointment with the TV series. The relationship between Joel and Ellie felt a wee bit more rushed than the game. And in the game there was more action so you were protecting each other far more than what was shown on the series. I said pre-show that I expected folk to be a bit underwhelmed with the ending and that was the main reason why.

For me the ending was perfect and showed how much Ellie had grown on Joel and what she meant to him. He literally chose her over potentially saving humanity. Some turnaround from him seeing her as cargo. Was a great personal dilema as well: would you give your child/close relative for the sake of humanity?

Thought it was a great ending at the time and still do.

I think knowing that the story is at a point where there is still more to come, then the ending becomes a bit more understandable. It was a poignant moment where Ellie attempted to put all her trust in to Joel and allow him to come clean, but instead he doubled down on his lies because the idea of him losing Ellie by telling the truth was the hardest road for him to take, but continuing the lie was the easy way out.

  19. ‘Training’ is my favourite episode as well. It’s near 23 years old and there still hasn’t been a TV show that’s came close to The Office for me. Gervais’ portrayal of Brent in that episode is as close to comedic perfection as you will find, absolutely top tier.

The number of times Main has been fouled this season and hasn't had a foul given his way, quite often due to his strength keeping him upright, has been considerable.

He's probably decided he's had enough and that it's actually better to exaggerate contact, as he sees plenty others getting fouls off the back of it.

I'd have preferred him not to have to done it, but as others have mentioned, we've had a couple of ridiculous awards against us, so as they say, these things even themselves out over the season...............................

The most recent defeat against Hibs at home is the best example of that. The referee was just flat out refusing to give a foul in favour of Main no matter what the defender was doing. He was getting dragged about by his shirt collar and the decision was going against him for backing in. I’ve never seen a St Mirren player that gets as many blatant fouls against him waved away as much as Curtis Main does.

You’re not taking into account the perspective. The camera isn’t looking straight down the middle of the two lines, which forces our perception of the vanishing point closer to the start of the lines.

Think of it this way: imagine the camera is looking perfectly down the middle of the two lines. The vanishing point is then somewhere in the distance (beyond the stand on the far side). The camera can only move left to right (along the x-axis, but it can rotate on its own axis) and the vanishing point can only move up and down between the parallel lines (along the y-axis).

Now imagine the camera and vanishing point are tied together. As you move the camera along the x-axis, it pulls the vanishing point closer. You also need to rotate the camera move in order to still see the lines.

That’s more or less how our perception of where a vanishing point is works.

    14E17F32-F43F-445E-BF89-AE88D5870F82.thumb.jpeg.82c6bf4c1573422e2e24d2e4d82830eb.jpeg

I understand that, but even at the angle of this camera it would take much more than the width of a football pitch to see any convergence of the half way line and the ‘offside’ line, maybe if you took away the stand and continued the lines out to reach Harthill you would see it. If you stood perpendicular to a train track, the section directly in front of you would run as close to parallel that it wasn’t noticeable, but if you turned to look 100 yards away you would see the rails begin to meet gradually until the vanishing point.

What a genuinely interesting debate this is, it’s an important issue and something I feel very strongly about, as I can tell you do too.

I feel slightly bad being too down on Craig Napier as he came across very well on A View From The Terrace a couple of weeks back, but he had a stinker.

I’ve spoke to guys who watched him come up through the Junior ranks and they can’t believe he’s officiating at this level. Apparently he was an absolute bombscare every week. He was the referee a few weeks ago when Hamilton Arbroath was on BBC Scotland and couldn’t get his red card out quick enough to send off an Arbroath defender for a clumsy tackle 40 yards from goal, which was rescinded after appeal. The standard of refereeing in Scotland has a bleak future if he is seen as one of the better ones. His attitude towards the players is horrendous, he’s acts like a PE teacher trying to control a bunch of 12 year olds.

For balance I should say I’ve liked the look of David Dickinson when I’ve seen him recently. He’s made a few mistakes but he seems to be one of a handful of referees who tries to get along with the players rather than running around dishing out yellow cards and over dramatic lectures like some high school hall monitor (Collum, Napier, Dallas).

  23. 42 minutes ago, Mark Connolly said:

If that was the case, presumably Napier would have gone to the screen to review the Grieve incident. He didn't, so either he gave a soft as shite penalty, or the officials all ignored protocol in an attempt to cover up the fact that he gave a soft as shite penalty.

Which means he's either incompetent, or incompetent and a cheat.

Or incompetent, a cheat and built like the fat end of a 7 iron.

What is it with the majority of Scottish referees and assistants having the build of a recovering heroin addict? Collum, Napier, McLean and Clancy must weigh about 25 stone combined. I’m sure Class A drugs isn’t the issue as I know for certain that the Category 1 officials in Scotland are only taken from white collar jobs, Hugh Dallas insists on it. If you work as a joiner or a plumber and have aspirations to officiate in the Premiership you can forget it, no matter how good a referee you are. Policeman, politician, school teacher etc.? No ceiling as to how high you can go. Plumber, joiner or mechanic? Johnstone Burgh v Yoker Athletic with no linesmen and 50 drunk neds on the sideline.
