    Young Frankenstein (1974)

From Wilder's mascara to Khan's lipstick to the couple on the trains to....

It's just magnificent from start to finish and eminently quotable (eg "walk this way"),  with career best performances from Wilder, Leachman, and Boyle with just the best support from Garr, Khan and Feldman.

All of the gear that went "bzzzzzz" was purloined  from the Universal Studios 1930s productions of "Frankenstein" and possibly the greatest thing about the film was that it was made in 1974, the same year that Brooks made Blazing Saddles.

    Gene Hackmans cameo is brilliant.

  2. Watched the TOS episode Balance Of Terror after watching this week's SNW. Very smart the way they replayed the episode while giving us Pikes perspective on how he approaches conflict compared to Kirk. Worth checking out the TOS episode on Netflix. Much of the scenes and dialogue are the same.

  3. Went to a diner on a visit to Edinburgh last week , was okay not great.

When I asked if I could put a tip on a debit card , the server told me it had already been added to the bill , when I looked it said on receipt gratuity not service charge. First time this has happened to me and thought it odd that they put it straight on without checking , I usually leave a decent tip but I'd like to decide how much etc.

  4. Watched a few of the The Boys : Diabolical cartoons on Prime , a bit hit and miss but brilliant to see comic Butcher , Hughie and Terror as a cartoon.

  5. Starship Troopers by Robert A Heinlein.

Very different from the movie. Gone is the annoying high school characters and more of a Full Metal Jacket vibe.

It follows the journey of Juan "Johnny" Rico from recruit training to war and promotions to N.C.O to officer.

Can't make up my mind if the book is a anti-war novel or straight up piece of American conservative writing. According to Wikipedia he started out as a liberal but became progressively more conservative and founded a society that was in favour of more above ground nuclear testing.

Almost as impossible a choice as a Top Five of anything in history could be.  I could spend hours , come up with about 10 different Top Fives, each record a work of genius, and still omit staggering pieces of brilliance. I can only say, that from a personal point of view, any Top Five that doesn't include either 'I Want To Hold Your Hand' or 'Tomorrow Never Knows' , and preferably both, is a wee bit on the wobbly side....Those two records, the same band, same lead singer, utterly stunning, totally different from the other, recorded barely two and a half years apart !!! Anyone asks you for proof that The Beatles are the greatest band that ever has and ever will be, just play them those two records..

When you consider the actual timescale of the album's being just over six years from 1963 to 1969 , the sheer scale and variety on them is amazing. The road towards Sgt Peppers gives you two of possibly their best albums ( imo ) , Rubber Soul and Revolver.

  7. Nobody. 8/10

Bob Odenkirk as a beaten down family man whose home is burgled. He interrupts the robbery and seems to lose his bottle when he has the chance to take one of the robbers out , to the disgust of his son.

He finally snaps and goes on a revenge rampage that calls on his previous life skills.

Hugely enjoyed the action scenes and there's a decent bit of humour thrown in. Christopher Lloyd as his dad is great.

Were the ISIS fighters refused help as they had fought for or aided a proscribed terrorist organisation?

The people going over to Ukraine are either enlisting in the Ukrainian army or acting as mercenaries which is not illegal?

The rights and wrongs can be argued individually but don’t see them being interchangeable.

It's against British law for a British citizen to fight in a war against a country we are " at peace " with , we aren't at war with Russia ( yet ) which makes it illegal.*

Think it's The Enlistment act of 1870/80 , hasn't been repealed.

There's whataboutery and there's whataboutery but this is just not very good Student Union whataboutery.

You might have a point if Brits were going to fight for Russia, but they're not so you don't.

You're mixing up whataboutery with fact.

Both groups left Britain to take part in a war in other countries , should we just use the law and punishments against those groups we don't like?

    Dave, where have come from?

    Ukraine mate, in you come.

Muhammad where have you come from?

    Ukraine, sorry back to Syria.

We really are a bunch of two faced c*nts , which was the point I'm trying to make.

To some British people , the Iraq war was illegal and felt it was anti-muslim , so they went to fight against that. The guys in the article say they couldn't sit back and watch parts of Europe being illegally invaded , both are doing an illegal act , but , the ex-servicemen who head to Ukraine will receive a different response for the same act.

One left Britain to join ISIS and and fight against British soldiers.

The other left Britain to join the Ukrainian army to fight against Russian soldiers.

So , both left to fight what people perceive as illegal invasions , what's the difference?

So by extension, those who joined the International Brigades fighting fascism in Spain are the same as those who joined Isis?

Poor equivalence. The government of the time forbade British citizens from fighting in Spain.

Will there be the same treatment as was handed to the Isis fighters who left from Britain and were refused help and made stateless for fighting for a foreign army/state? Think that's a fair question.
