  1. A few disappointing aspects to that innings for NZ - use of review, batsmen getting in but not putting up big scores, lack of aggression at points - but just about competitive. From a neutral's perspective, early wickets needed to keep it interesting. If England start anything like they did against Australia then it's not going to make for much of a game (not that they'll care!).
  2. Whoops. Had foolishly assumed the deadline would be this evening rather than 1pm so I appear to have missed the boat... Wasn't mad keen on the idea of potentially forking out hundreds of pounds many months before even knowing who was playing (I'm quite confident it won't be us), but still annoyed at myself!
  3. Sorry to hear the pub's away, but thanks for the info! Will try to visit the social club if time allows.
  4. Is there still a pub in Rosewell? I remember going to one last time we played at WW, but Google isn't giving me any results. I was at a game against EK end of season before last but didn't have time to investigate local hospitality.
  5. I was at the England/Afghanistan game and it was more of a contest than this. Impressive stuff from England, but I think I can safely find something else to do with the rest of the afternoon now...
  6. I couldn't seriously describe myself as a baseball fan as I've hardly watched any in years but I went yesterday and enjoyed it, though wasn't fussed who won. Did find myself googling various records relating to high scores and length of game after that first innings... It seemed to me like there was a higher proportion of Americans there than go to the NFL London games. Prepared to cut them some slack on the £6.50 Heineken 330ml bottles as you could get served in your seat so didn't have to miss anything queuing or climb up and down stairs - and it is some hike if you're near the top! It was a bargaintastic £7.50ish for a pint if you were prepared to go to a bar. I was unamused at being sold a ticket, without warning, for a seat with an obstructed view of the batter and first base due to the foul pole. But I was able to relocate to the unofficial back row so it wasn't a disaster.
  7. Both teams deserve huge credit for producing an utterly absorbing 2 hrs + of fitbaw, great effort from both teams - Bonnyrigg in the midst of a gruelling schedule and two days after an epic ten man comeback, and the BUs battling to the end of extra time a man short. We started both halves of normal time horribly but were the better side over the 90 and should have won it in the last half hour. Extra time a different story with the sending off - Bonnyrigg will rue some missed chances. Agree that special mentions are due to Morgan and Murphy. After the Blantyre fiasco, hopefully this puts to bed any notion that we can't take penalties in the dark.
  8. Agreed - and especially re the midfield trio . An absolutely bonkers game, but like all our games against Tranent this season, terrific entertainment. (Even the 0-5 was compelling viewing in a sense..) Over the piece Tranent can consider themselves a wee bit unlucky tonight. The BUs probably got the breaks that they didn't get in the EoS Qualifying Cup tie, so I guess these things do even themselves out...
  9. When was the last time we hosted Tranent? I seem to remember us humping them 8-0 or suchlike about twenty years ago but everything else I can remember since has been through there. For what it's worth, a win tomorrow virtually secures second place, given our goal difference relative to Dundonald.
  10. I agree with you - certainly didn't mean to come across as unkind to Bo'ness, who were excellent yesterday.
  11. It's fair to suggest that Bonnyrigg do have bigger fish to fry, but still a very pleasing performance yesterday and that should give us a bit of confidence if - as seems likely one way or another - our paths cross again this season. Leaves us well placed to get second place too, though still a bit of work to do.
  12. Harsh on either team to lose - a really good game. Dunno about the players, but I'm knackered...
  13. Can't find the scores just now (it'd be a shame if my moment of near-glory has been removed from the internet - or maybe the quizzing website just isn't easy to navigate) but I'm sure it was open to competitors across the globe, so I like to claim that I was right up there internationally...
  14. If you return I'll try to get over and say hello! I was the makeweight in the Golden Rulers, but I do float between teams depending on who's short or who requires expertise on non league fitbaw or Little Mix.
  15. I never really pay any attention to this this thread so when the teams were announced I was wondering if the Pie & Bovril Reserves team was anything to do with this fine website. Decent effort for a first shot - it's a really tough quiz. I've been doing it for years and have never come anywhere near winning (or even answering any questions, it sometimes feels like...)
  16. I don't want to pull this thread because I fear we'll have to analyse the quality of recent managerial appointments at Prestonfield, it'll end up in shooting-fish-in-a-barrel territory and that would be unedifying for everyone. But thanks for replying anyway!
  17. Syme's backpass brought back unpleasant memories of a similarly dreadful backpass by Mortimer (I think) at the same venue fifteen-ish (?) years ago in a Scottish tie against a then struggling Tranent, and set us up for arguably our most embarrassing result since that day. (Hey! That goalless draw at Tynecastle is looking like a great result now!) Could have been very different had we taken advantage of being notably superior in the first half. But...we didn't. Defence crumbled when any questions were asked. Cannae keep papering over the cracks by playing well against Dundonald, as has been the story of the season. Besides, we've no more games left against them...
  18. Night and day from last week, some fine performances across the park. Playing Dundonald seems to suit us - arguably our three best games this season have been against them. Only disappointment is that we didn't win by the margin we should have, but the main thing is it's a big three points ahead of two very tricky away games.
  19. The truly dreadful thing is that - for all that we had most of the game - I can't honestly say that we should have won. Take away that late Hunter chance and we made nothing. Without wishing to be overly dramatic (but you know I'm about to be...!) , that's our worst result in many years, and in due course it could prove to be extremely damaging.
  20. Meh. It's hardly going to bring in megabucks. I'm happy enough to play one friendly if there are no other options - I like the Crossgates idea but it may not be a go-er - but back to back friendlies? Away. If they're greetin' aboot it, agree to split the gate and toss a coin for who hosts.
  21. Very disappointed to be missing this one, as it's the away day I fancied most at the start of the season, and would've been a new ground for me too. Unfortunately I made plans for today a few weeks ago - y'know, when I thought we were going to be playing on the Sunday... Hope everyone has a good day and the BUs win 9-0.
  22. Aye, the inability to score remains a major source of concern - but otherwise a very pleasing performance, and you could probably make a reasonable case for MOTM for half a dozen players, which is always a good sign. (Will Snowdon for me.)
  23. Thought we did alright under the circumstances, and the scoreline was a tad harsh - although I suspect Bonnyrigg could have lifted it a bit if required. But I'd echo the praise for those who pulled on their boots for the cause despite injury, lack of fitness etc. Bonnyrigg should go on and win the conference at a canter. Hopefully we can get back to winning ways soon after three (league) games without a victory, although of our results so far only the draw with Haddington was a genuine disappointment. Nice to see some away fans as well...
