  1. 11 years ago today we had a basement division home game against stenhousemuir postponed due to snow...
  2. In the unlikely event that this match goes ahead, just a note for home and away fans that there will be a food and toy bank collection at the stadium from 1 til 3 on Saturday for all who are able to donate.
  3. I was at the stadium all day and it was -4 all day, dropping to -5/-6 as I headed home. Not a hope in hell we'll have it playable (which is no fault of the ground staff and nothing to do with pitch covers, just a natural fact of life when it's consistently below freezing outside).
  4. I know dem feelz, but that's the joys of being self employed.
  5. I heard he still goes to the bank branch once a week with his cheque book to pay his bills and draw out cash for the week as he doesn't understand direct debit or ATMs. Insists on getting his wages in a brown pay packet with the tax deductions written in pencil on the front.
  6. Yep, same. I've been banging on all season on here that we're light on numbers and short on cover, but the subs/fringe players have all come in when required and played their way into the starting XI. I also agree with Farrell's policy of those in possession of a jersey retain them until injury or defeat necessitate change. It's working and if it ain't broke... The take away from all this is essentially that I don't know anything about football.
  7. Yes, all glory hunters support two fucking shite football teams.
  8. Whenever they've met at The Rock I've sat in the away end, so I'll keep to tradition and do the same at the Theatre of Pies.
  9. No matter the outcome, I'm on a hiding to nothing.
  10. I preferred the original brimstone. Sequels are never as good.
  11. I agree with long time lurker. The Sarn't is a dangerous menace. He's killed before. Admittedly it was a football club on that occasion, but that was how Dahmer got started.
  12. Played some nice stuff on the deck. Just lacked a finisher. Looked a bit haphazard defensively. Carswell sold Buchanan short a couple of times. McKee and Lynas were very good. Take the point and move on.
  13. BBC reported today that according to the US department of defence they estimate total Russian military casualties thus far (killed, wounded and missing combined) as 100k. And the same for Ukrainian forces. If true that is 1917 / 1940 levels. War of attrition indeed.
  14. Podcast was excellent again. Think that's my favourite one so far. Really enjoy the player interviews and background info they provide.
  15. 'community club' is just a catchphrase that means nothing. Like when Barca/Liverpool/Celtic/whoever say 'more than a club'. It's just jingoism. All football clubs are businesses. Advertise for services of all kinds, and if some folk pay for some of them then great. Certainly not worth whining about or claiming we can't be a 'community club' if we do offer these things. 'oh we're charging folk for X, how can we therefore fulfill some unspecified criteria?' isn't a valid argument against running a business. We'd all be moaning (rightly, and as we all have for years) if the club wasn't trying to find revenue outwith match days. We've all had a moan in years past in this very thread about the lack of engagement with the local community and how it's such a waste to own the facility and not offer it out for events regularly other than the odd wedding or council event. So now the club starts using the stadium and surrounds for revenue generating activities (which FYI is precisely how a club becomes part of the fabric of a community, by being the first name on the public tongue for events), and the criticism is out for it somehow being the wrong kind of activity, again per some unfathomable, unspoken terms. I've had a whine in here about the type of events being held being not my thing, but I'm still glad they're having them. Much better than the previous regime in charge of hospitality etc... And again, nobody is being forced to pay for anything. It's entirely up to the punters whether they do or not. I was at the club Halloween party with my family and it was mobbed. Much busier than a match day in the lounge. And loads of the folk there were not Dumbarton fans, but all were local. Engagement with the community is what makes a 'community club', not whether or not you think it's fair to charge for using the stadium grounds for leisure, and will ultimately create not only non match revenue, but also the next generation of fans as people get the bug for being at the ground and seeing what it's all about.
  16. It's like when I said on here the other week I'd had a call from one of the players seeking commercial sponsorship from my business. Something the club should have been doing already, so therefore something I was pleased to see (and immediately took them up on, so they ended up with some revenue I wouldn't have spent had the player not called me). The reaction on here was immediately 'well I don't think it's a good thing because blah blah whinging pish and shite' from the usual stable of pish. Fucking whingers man.
  17. Loads of other clubs have sponsor a brick/board/step/shorts/shirt/seat etc. Why shouldn't we? As for the fireworks, it's been said by others but if people want to pay it they can, no-one is forcing them at gunpoint. The club should have been utilising the facilities at the rock for the last 20 years like all other clubs do. But once again now that we've started actually offering alternative revenue streams some fans have to moan about it. We have an extraordinary number of whingers in the support. The club really is damned if they do, damned if they don't.
  18. I wish I was going to tick it off too but alas. Maybe in April. I'll console myself with New Douglas Park in a few weeks which I've (bizarrely) never been to. Went with killie for a weekend long pre season tourney about 15+ years ago. It's a... throwback. NDP I've been to about 50 times due to it's ease of train journey. On topic, Sons to win 0-1.
  19. Funny sort of game. We were very good at times. And very poor at times. McKee had a poor first half, but a cracking second half and I was surprised he came off, though that may be for fresh legs. The exact same for Orsi. Blair was rotten most of the game and I was shocked he wasn't subbed. I thought McLean did well out of position up top. Gray had an off game by his usual standards and the midfield generally were not up to the task today. Thankfully the wings and defence / keeper were up to par today and got the job done. Plus marks for an excellent Long performance. Decent sub cameo from Wallace. Seemed like Garrity's goal took about ten minutes to go in Three points, clean sheet, top of the league, up the road.
