  1. My memories of Meadowbank are soured by the 3 hour bus journey back. We all got on the bus celebrating and got off looking like we'd stood on a dog turd.
  2. In comparison to Colin Hamilton though he's Paulo Maldini.
  3. I was wondering how many years it was since I seen him score his first goal at Montrose. The answer explains my gray hairs!
  4. The playoffs are sore to lose, but they make the league far more interesting. Pretty much every team in the league had something to play for with 2 games to go apart from Alloa and Livingston. Compare that to the old 14 team 2nd Division where you could have at least ten teams playing out the last month of the season. As for the Wasps, yep a disappointing end to the season. But after 3 years of fighting relegation it was a pleasant change to win games and score plenty of goals again.
  5. You could have watched both legs of the Brechin - Raith game for £15 in total. Non season ticket holders at Alloa paid £32 for the two games and will pay full price again next weekend. It's an improvement on previous seasons, but still a rip off compared to other teams. There would have been almost 800 fans paying full price yesterday, so a nice little bonus for the club, why not make it a fiver like Raith did next week and try and get a few hundred more through the gates for the TV cameras. Even make it £1 for kids. The occasion and the chance to be on the telly might get a few more bodies in.
  6. The difference is we are now viewed as customers rather than supporters.
  7. I think the fact that fans were charged £16 when we played Cove Rangers earlier in the season answers your question.
  8. You can't always get what you want unfortunately....for him.
  9. One of the best hat tricks ever seen. 3 screamers.
  10. Meggat is better than all of our current back 4 or 5, albeit they are all good players. Can't see him being signed though.
  11. It's the same squad that won ten in a row, scored lots of goals, conceded very few and rarely went behind in games prior to his appointment.
  12. Peter Dwyer has returned from Oz to see out his contract.
  13. It might have been better for Jim to have brought in his own assistant rather than just go with the same old with Paddy. Might make a bit of difference if there is a strong character there that can make the call to sub the boss or change things from the sidelines when required, instead of waiting until it's too late. If he is insisting on playing himself, we need an assistant that can be trusted enough to also make decisions.
  14. Stupid red card at Stenny, lucky with an attempted off the ball elbow against Albion Rovers, subbed before getting a red against Stenny and now a red against Airdrie. Hopefully proved wrong but Jim looks like he doesn't know how to cope with the responsibility of being manager and playing. After the incredible start, the lack of depth in the squad and ability to change tactics seems to have caught up on us. Really need to add 2 or 3 more players in January. Go'on Mike, open the wallet and pinch Liam Buchanan!!
  15. He was the new David Greenhill. Ran about a lot and never faulted for effort, but produced very little. Can't believe he's got a deal in the Championship, when the likes of Ryan Mccord is now in the 2nd division. Almost as crazy as Scott Gallagher being on the bench at St Mirren whilst Andy McNeil has been in the Morton team that played the League Cup semi.
  16. It was the last game of the season and Alloa played a weakened team as they had a play - off semi - final a couple of days later at Brechin. Think it might have made a difference to Arbroath if they'd won that day though.
  17. He scored the winner against Arbroath a few seasons ago whilst still 15, so he'll be welcome at Montrose.
  18. No my point was that from when I first seen him drop a cross into his own net at Elgin until when he finally got regular games two and a half years later he didn't appear to have made any improvements to his game and still wasn't good enough to be first choice. Better to take a chance on a backup that isn't happy to be an unused sub for 3 seasons. Though if Andy McNeil is spotted in Morrisons during the week, welcome back Craig. :-)
  19. McDowell had 4 years wages from the club previously and never had to do much for 3 of them. When he did get a chance, thanks to Gibson being poor, he wasn't very convincing, hadn't improved in his time with us and his defence appeared to have little confidence in him. Not expecting to get a world class back-up, but would rather it was someone wanting to improve and challenge for their place, rather than happily collect skelfs for 3 years.
  20. I think it must be more than fish they are smoking in Arbroath Martyn. I'm extremely grateful they saved us from the horrific prospect of having to watch him play again next season.
  21. Never in a million years. Ryan McChord was outstanding for Alloa and was in the division team of the year for both our seasons in the two lower leagues. Colin Hamilton was so good at fullback we had to narrow the pitch for him. As long as you keep Ryan off the pies you've got the signing of the season.
  22. He'll need to do a Hartley during the summer and build pretty much a squad from scratch. Though I have far more faith in Ross doing it than the last two managers. Just a pity he inherited the mess Lennon left this season.
  23. Duffy has looked ok on a couple of occasions, but contributed even less in half a season than Declan McManus. No goals, no assists, so nothing lost if he goes back. Crawford does a lot of work without ever really looking like doing anything, the new David Greenhill! None of the loan players have impressed me so far. Maybe a lesson for next season to concentrate on building a squad of signed players and only using loans to add quality if available. rather than give experience to other team's youngsters at the expense of our own.
