Bought this for £1 in the local charity shop on the way to work yesterday. Didn't have a clue what it was but looked interesting as it has collaborations with Will Oldham, Johnny Marr and Robert Smith among others. Just listening to it now and it really isn't my kind of thing. Turns out it's a concept album about 'what keeps you up at night' , so far so good but then I read that it's a solo project of the drummer from Nine Inch Nails which doesn't come as much of a surprise as there are bits and pieces of 'industrial' sounds on some of the tracks. Just read an on-line review which says 'it might take a 2nd, 3rd or even 20th listen to get this but it's worth the wait'. Can't see me listening to it that many times in the hope of getting it although the track playing now which features David Sylvian on vocals is rather nice

Took me years to get round to reading it but just finished CITY of GOD by Paulo Lins.
Drugs, Guns, Fashion, Music, Love, Friendship, Corruption, Blood & Guts it says on the cover and that's exactly what you get. Based on true life stories in the favelas of Brazil this is one of the most hard hitting books I have ever read. There really is no let up in the violence as page after page is filled with shootings, murder and rape. There is the odd glimmer of hope here and there but ultimately just about everything ends in tragedy.
Hopefully I'll find time at the end of the week to watch the film.
9/10

Also stuck £3 accumulator on ...

Thinking of heading over to the HAC in irvine tomorrow for a gig by Chemikal Underground signing RM Hubbert.
Took some photos at the RM Hubbert gig the other night. First real attempt at gig photography so nothing great but it gave me a feel for it for future gigs.

Only these planned; The Darkness, Edinburgh (Novemeber) and The Complete Stone Roses, Aberdeen (December)
I bought a shrink wrapped dvd of their Barrowlands gig from a while back from a charity shop in Largs for a quid last Saturday. Can't see me ever watching it either to be honest but I'm never one to turn down a bargain
